SO I needed a long throw projector for Halloween.

First I bought a long throw lens for the JVC DLA-M2000SC I got last year.
The eBay bastard never shipped it. I had to open a case and get a refund. All I wanted was my lens!

Once that was undone I still needed a long throw projector to project onto the front of the house with. Needed a throw distance of 35-40 feet with a 110" high image. I looked around and found the DLA G20U had a long throw lens on it. Found one on eBay. Had the seller pack it with wads of shrink wrap to cover the fan side, 4 layers of bubble wrap on all sides and double walled box. Amazing packing job!

UPS still managed to break it. At first I thought it was just the power button. BUT When I opened it up to fix that I found 'bits' floating around and a random screw. Once piece was a corner piece off of something, couldn't see where it was from but when I powered it up I had a triangular light leak on the screen. Coincidence? Hmmmm....

United Parcel Smashers smashes another one!

That must have taken one hell of a hard hit to snap the insides like this:

Now I'm waiting on the seller to see what he wants to do. He gave me a 14 day warranty, initially responded but hasn't gotten back to me in a couple of days.

If the packing really was good but something still got broken, then the box should show visible damage. How did the box look?

BTW, four layers of bubble wrap sounds barely adequate to me for something that heavy - especially for a long-distance/international package.

Shipped from Minneapolis, Minnesota to my Vermont address. So no international shipping.

Not too bad but it could have been a square on bump/thump that did it too without killing the box to much.

Wow, that's still pretty brutal. Check the box for soft spots or dents or indentations inside. If the box is intact, I'd say the damage happened before it was shipped (maybe dropped it off a table before putting it in). I agree with ecrabb, no way it could be that damaged without something showing inside or outside of the box. Take pictures inside and out, the ebay seller might have to refund you. Was there insurance on it? The only thing you should be out here is the projector and your time unfortunately.

Any way you can put the pieces back together or is it hooped entirely?

Based on the resolution of the projector you got, have you considered just using a high output office projector? They are cheap and at a previous employer we used one in an actual theater for our monthly meetings. Image was at least 10 feet high (roughly 2/3 of the screen). Worked well enough that you could read the powerpoint presentation and was plenty bright.

This is new, but they must have older models that can be had cheap.

Seller responded. He's filing a claim with UPS on Monday. I'll let you guys know.

I'm packing it up just as he had it and washing my hands at this one.

Too bad. Low hours too.

You know how it nags you when you don't at least try to fix something?

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO MO'FERS!

I fixed it!!

Took it all apart, Gorilla glued the broken corner on, and dusted out the light path. Then I checked EVERY connector. Found out it was the top board. There's a set of edge connectors on it and the screws were loose. Allowing it to shift in transit and unplug from the light engine.

I feel GREAT! Time to go play with a year 2000 digital with 300:1 contrast Laughing

Gee when I put it that way..... ahhahahah

I usually get the package. However in the last year or two I have had at least 4 that I can remember off the top of my head damaged in transit. UPS, FedEx and USPS. Seems when it comes to shipping you roll the bones...

I hope I never have a package lost again though as its not fun at all

Plus side is the guy I bought it from is refunding me my money that I paid for it at least
