If your receiver is non-3D, then the Theatre + has to go before it, just as fragzero said. I seem to remember reading that the PS3 has had issues with some surround sound formats in the past. I don't have one myself, so I can't give you a definitive answer. There's a procedure to make the PS3 recapture a source EDID/re-initialize its HDMI, and you might want to try that.

Good point: If the receiver doesn't support HDMI 1.4 (3D) then the 3D-theatre has to go before, or you have to use an HDMI splitter.

Several months ago my PS3 just quit working and as it turned out, was unrepairable.

I replaced it with a new PS3, a slimline model and all was well until a recent software upgrade that broke the BluRay 3D capability. It would still detect and display streaming video from Netflix, but would not either not detect a 3D disc or if it did detect it, would only display in 2D.

Last week I finally found an answer on a PS3 forum. There is selection in the Display Set-up Menu to turn Closed Captioning on or off. The solution was to turn Closed Captioning OFF. Now we are viewing 3D from BluRay discs again.

Also of note, after 7 years, the projector lamp gave warning that it was about to expire. I replaced it after a little more than 4800 hours of service. We definitely think we got our money's worth.
