Arnold, are you looking at one of the commercial DAS or something homerolled?

I'm still trying to decide whether to go the DAS or NAS route first. The Christie IMB will handle either. The
minimum requirements for the NAS or DAS devices:

• 1 TB storage space or greater
• Capable of running RAID 5
• Gigabit Ethernet connectivity
• Network File System (NFS)

The reality is that the IMB will only be used for demo material such as theatrical and equipment trailers, MPEG-2 and JPEG-2000 files, and limited 4k demo program material. The majority of the time the projector will be fed via the DVI-D input(s) by a Christie SKA-3D Alternate Content processor to allow Blu-Rays, Satellite, and Cable programs to be shown.

Does this mean that I get kicked out of the forum now???

Wink Nope! Many of us (myself included) have gone digital. As Jask mentioned, I like to think that most of us are into home theater for the art of movie reproduction. The technology used to meet that goal takes a back seat. (There are pluses and minuses to any technology).

Looking forward to hearing how you like the Christie 4k!

Kal

Arnold have you considered setting up a G90 in one of your spare rooms with some nice speakers ? A smaller venue but great for everyday use and it consumes far less energy... Wink

P.S. How are those solar panels working out ?

Congrats on the change. Since you mentioned 4k, I am guessing that you are going with a cinema dlp from Barco, Christie or DP. Unless you think the Sony can light up your screen.

You are correct. I decided to go with the Christie 4k Digital Cinema projector. I had been waiting almost a year for a "B-Stock" unit to become available, but no such luck so I finally "bit the bullet". Now the fun part will be to decide whether to go with a NAS or DAS solution.

That sounds like an excellent unit. I have only seen the DPs, but I can imagine the Christie is equally good.

Thanks for the suggestion, but my analog days are over (see pic).

The original PV panels finally went in during May, with another set added in September. As of today, the system has generated 11,976.81 kWh. I am quite happy that I finally got around to getting the PV system up and running.

What size are your pics? Remember 1024x768 or less in jpg format

Decorator type stuff to add colour. Completely useless, no functionality (just like the bowl they sit in). In fact, there wasn't enough of them in the bowl according to the photographers who took this shot so they filled the bottom of it with some other junk so that the bowl appeared fuller. Unlike Tribbles, I've never had any "troubles" with them. (An old Star Trek Original Series episode for those who aren't aware) Wink

Arnold: Are you getting an error of some sort? Maybe it's too large or is not an allowed format? We allow gif / jpeg / jpg / png up to 750K in size.

Jeremy: Any resolution is allowed as long as it's below 750K. If the picture is too massive, it'll simply appear as an icon you can click on and won't show in-line.

I've recently upped these limits but you still can't simply post directly from most cameras these days as they all produce massive file sizes, often 4-5mb (too big). You need to resize or host it elsewhere and link.

Kal,

The photo is a 437 KB jpg. Similar to those I posted last year. I don't get any error message, it's just nothing seemingly happens after I click the "Add Attachment" button. Is there a X by Y pixel limit as Jeremy said?

Nope - there's no resolution limit. If the photo's too high in resolution then it doesn't get displayed inline to avoid blowing out the page, but there's an icon you can click to view it.

Try now arnold - I think you had hit your upload quota limit (but strange that you weren't seeing an error). I've raised your limit.

A well set up 9 inch CRT projector (craigr comes to mind ) is not exactly the same but yes both are considered analog.

This thread comes to mind...

I went with a Christie Digital Cinema projector. The throw distance is 45'. The lens is a 1.31-1.85 prime zoom lens. I went with the 'High Contrast' series rather than the 'High Brightness' ones. I'm not sure who makes their lenses, but I thought I saw "Konica Minolta" on one of the pictures.
