Local guy is doing a G90 with a Draper screen, electric,Tab-Tensioned, 4:3.

http://www.draperinc.com/ProjectionScreens/surfaceSelectorResults.asp

The "Pure White XT1300V" is their 1.3 gain material

Would the "Pearl White CH1900V" 1.9 gain hot spot with the G90? I understand it has a narrow viewing angle but that's not a problem in this instance.

His main use is Disney DVD's for his daughter.

Which would you guys recommend? The 1.3 or the 1.9 gain?

PLEASE no "DUDE YOU NEED A 16:9 SCREEN!" posts and absolutely none of that stupid 4:3 in a 16:9 window nonsense.
He want's a big picture not a retarded one.

Either one will be fine, but my preference is for the 1300. The 1900 will make the image brighter with more pop, but the 1300 will look better all around.

I know he's trying to decide on a width for the screen. If he goes wider than 96" than get the 1900. Smaller than 96 wide use the 1300.

I spoke with him yesterday and asked if you could help him hang the G90 so that you can determine the max width in his room. That's really to only way to know for sure once the keystone is set. Put the bottom two corners almost all the way to the edge of the tube; between about 3.5-6 mm from the edge.

Also, he wants to do 3D and I will say that the 3D will look better on the 1900.

Great thanks Craig. I'm thinking the 1900 may be the way to go for him because he wants to do 3D later. Plus if his new room is like his old room he doesn't have total light control.

Draper has asked me what the lens ratio is on the G90. Anyone know off the top of their head?

WTF? I don't know what they mean other than 16x9, 2.35, 4x3... Have you just given them the dimensions you want for the screen? Really just telling them the width and 4x3 should be all they need.

I haven't been over there yet and he's had some delays. He thinks he's got 120" from lenses to screen but until I see it and we measure it we won't know for sure the width.

I have a 1300 and think it is great for regular viewing, it would make sense to set up with a 1900 and have the settings dialed back for non 3D sources. How is the seating relative to the viewing angle if you go high gain? will any seats lose out on image quality? let us know what happens.

Should be out there this weekend (tentatively) . I'll let you know what he goes with.

SO. He went with the Draper 1300. They sent it with the motor on the wrong side, they refused to pay return shipping. They wanted him to pay for their mistake. Long story short it's trashed.

He's buying another screen. He also said the 1300 had less gain than his cheapie eBay screen. All in all a very unhappy experience with Draper.

Never heard anything good about Draper; its always been Stewart or Da-Lite that I've heard the best with regards to the larger manufacturers. I understand from CIR that Stewart is the only company that actually has accurate/tested specs for gain. I suppose the question isn't whether there are other excellent screens (which there are) but it's trying to figure out which one to get. With no formal standards/certification it's tough to figure out what you'll receive with screen materials.
