Is this unit compatible with dichroic filters\glasses instead of polarized ones?

Got this answer back too:

We support all polarization schemes. At the moment, we only provide linear and the circular, but soon we will be able to offer a Dolby type solution at an additional cost. This way home users who want to setup a passive 3D system and don't want to have to get a silver screen have an option.

Thanks Kal, good to know.
One more thing, Dolby3D system requires two components:
1) dichroic filters\glasses
2) color compensation system

Does the 3d evolver gives answer to the second component too?

I sent off a note yesterday and will let you know once I hear back.

I ve read this in the FAQ:

''At the moment, only linear and the circular is supported, but soon the 3D-Evolver will be able to offer a Dolby type solution at an additional cost. This way home users have the option of setting up a passive 3D system without needing a silver screen''

That I find VERY interesting! When will there be more specific news about this?

I'm afraid I do not know. Once we have more information it will be posted.

The 3D-Evolver price has been reduced. Dolby kits are now also available.

See: http://www.curtpalme.com/3DEvolver.shtm

Kal, this could be intersting for me but I need some feedback first on some things.
At the moment I own a Sony HW50 3D projector. The things that bother me are the brightness and flicker in 3D. If I buy the 3D-Evolver and a second Sony HW50, will these the two areas that I will notice big improvement? What are your expectations when I would do this?

Yes. As SC mentioned earlier here in this thread, those are the two things that you will likely notice the most (other than the picture being 3D of course). Wink

A while back I updated the order page and added the following information under the "How is the 3D-Evolver different from the 3D-Theater?" section:

Quote:
A dual projector setup with both running at 60Hz refresh eliminates the flicker of an active system when each eye only gets 30Hz (as not all projectors support 120Hz). A dual projector setup also doubles the brightness of the system, allowing for larger screens and/or a brighter picture with the 3D glasses on. Brightness is always reduced with single-projector active systems.

Using the Dolby kit means you do not need to use a dedicated silver screen which tends to only get used for 3D (silver screens wash out the blacks and blurring a 2D image to some degree).

I just found a comprehensive thread on the AVS forum about dual projector setup. They just told me that lcos projectors (like 2x a Sony HW50) will give quite some problems with colors when running them in a passive dual setup with Dolby filters.

Hi,

what do I need to make 3D with Evolver to use my 2x2 Sony G70 Stack?

At the moment I use Andres software for edgeblending with mpc-hc.

In add. I could double it with two more G70.

Do I need now 3D-Evolver Dolby Kits?

Regards

A silver screen is required for circular polarization, a regular screen can be used if you use Dolby filters. Dolby filters are more expensive, hence the increased price if you see on our 3D-Evolver order page here:

http://www.curtpalme.com/3DEvolver.shtm

I’ve recently spoken to the manufacturer about using the Evolver on a stacked CRT setup and confirmed a few things:

Each CRT lens would need to be covered, thus, 6 total filters with 3 for LEFT and 3 for RIGHT.

Unfortunately the Dolby filters are considerably more expensive than circular polarization. For 6 filters it would be in the range of $1000 USD given the size and the quantity whereas, the circular filters will be far cheaper and including the cost of the silver screen, you would be saving money.

So for a CRT based setup they think a circular polarization would be the best (as opposed to spectra separation via Dolby style filters).

But in the end the choice is up to you of course. If interested we can price the solution accordingly. Email us at 3Dexperts@curtpalme.com.

Hi,

is it possible to use two Benq w1070 or two Optoma HD33 together with vip evolver?

Does someone have one of them tested?

It's been tested with the (very bright) Optoma TH1060P and HD23 and they work well. There's no reason why the HD33 would not work as well. Same with the Benq W1070.

While many different projector types will work, DLP projectors like these are what the manufacturer recommends first.

Using the 3D-Evolver with the Dolby Kit makes sense if you wish to keep your existing screen. A silver screen is required for 3D content when using the linear/circular kit. Silver screens are not well suited for 2D content as they wash out the blacks and blur the 2D image. If you intend to show both 2D and 3D content and do not want to use two separate screens, the Dolby Kit make sense. The caveat is that Dolby glasses are more expensive (about $15 each instead of $5).

The 3D-Evolver kits may be purchased here:

Yes. Should work without any issues. Projectors are 1080p (FULLHD) and bright.

You may purchase the 3D-Evolver directly on our website here:

We ship worldwide.
