With YCbCr the luma range is always 16-236.
With RGB the luma range can either be 16-236 or it may be 0-255. Furthermore, the luma range with RGB will not be specified by devices because that data is not contained in the info frame. So the source and display cannot communicate this data between each other.
You must set the Oppo to 16-236, the input on the Lumagen must be set to 16-236, and the output of the Lumagen must be set to 16-236. Also, your display must know to use (be set to) 16-236.
If you have any of those wrong than you will have incorrect brightness and contrast. If you set the Oppo to YCbCr than the output of the Oppo will be correct automatically because YCbCr only supports 16-236. In this case the input to the Lumagen will also automatically be correctly set to 16-236 because again, YCbCr only supports 16-236. If you then want to use RGB from the output of the Lumagen to the input of the display than you must set the Lumagen to RGB "video" level with is 16-236. You must also set your display (or it must support it by default) to 16-236.
RGB in video is supposed to only use 16-236. However, computers are supposed to use 0-255. What happened is that many video devices incorrectly use 0-255 and that created issues as soon as the DVI standard emerged that we are still dealing with today.
You should really use YCbCr 422 between the Oppo and Lumagen because this is 12-bit color data and will provide the best possible image quality with the least interpolation by the BD player.

I am going crazy with this brightness problem because after setting everything to Yc422, I have the same kind of issue when adding my HDQ.
OPPO->XD->BG808 all set to Yc422 => OK
OPPO->XD->HDQ->BG808 all set to Yc422 => brightness too high
I reset my HDQ with factory values. Same result: brightness is too high.
