|
|
Ok so I want to build a new 2.37 to 1 screen. I want to use beveled edge aluminum like CARADA does. Only thing is I can't find the framing after 2 days of searching online. I can find, C channel, U channel, T-slot, box frame, I beam, extruded, flat , boxed, Ad infinitum,
Anyone know where to get this stuff? The Criterion series 3 1/4" frame.

Wonder if you can fake it with two pieces of extruded aluminium?

Then he'll need to bond them in such a way that they do not come apart or rattle. That's a lot of work to skirt an already available market solution.

You could make the screen with wood and later cover the face with a bended aluminium foil.

I had the same problem when I built my screen, so what I did was use "ranch" trim. It was probably more like 2-1/2" wide, but cost was minimal. The ranch trim was from Lowe's or Home Depot, and was less than $10 each for 3-4 pieces. I glued and nailed a 'nailer' strip along the back of each one. Then, I bought 3 yards of stretchy black velvet and cut, stapled, and wrapped each of the four mitered pieces, and nailed it to the edge of my MDF/Wilsonart DW screen.
I think, all-in, my total cost was probably $50 or $60 for the train, on top of maybe $150 for the screen. In the end, I'm glad I didn't spend $250 just on the aluminum, because now I'm thinking about changing my screen.
You can't see it very well, but here it is finished. I can snap a couple of pics if anybody is interested.
