When I built my home in 1999-2000 i wired the whole house with the plans to use the Elan systems audio video distribution system. I never got around to it Wink lol

So i have all this equipment, the System 6 amplifier, a few Via! Touch screen LCD control units and many other key pads etc for each room in the house. I realized about 6 years ago I need a special software tool and hardware to program the system. Those are hard to come by and the programing I bet is a bitch. Does any one here have any experience with this stuff? I might try looking for the Via Control software on eBay as it does come up but still is more than I want to spend, 400-800 i have seen it go for.

And now with my extensive use of Apple Airport express and the iPone, iPads etc not sure if I want to spend the time doing all this.

So Chip? anyone know about this stuff?

I might be willing to sell it all if someone is interested. Depends on the difficulty of the programing etc.

I know I know!!! That is why I want to see if there is any interest here, or if I should even go ahead with this.

I wonder if there is any iRule codes for Elan systems.

There is a user-submitted Elan S6 device in the Builder, but it's IR, and it looks like a user just learned some single-zone controls to me. I'm not sure if third-party control is possible with that piece, but the keypads look like RS-485 devices, which an RS-232 device can be converted to. The hard part might be getting ahold of protocol (if it exists). If if you want serial control with feedback, and you can get your hands on protocol, I know somebody who can help you get it into the Builder. Wink

The newer (but still old) S86 has an RS-232 port, and protocol in the Builder, so it looks like it was more designed from the get-go for third-party control.

There is a special Elan Via Controller programer to load the codes for all your devices.

I might just put the whole lot up for sale.

I think i have 3 Via!'s. Its been so long
since I looked. I still think it be cool if I got it all running.

I wonder if Chip would be interested. Doesn't he deal with whole house automation?

When I get home I'll try to gather up all the stuff I have.

Its mostly key pads and a few Via Touch screens. And the one 6 zone Amp controller.

Youll have to get 5 posts I think to receive or read PM's.
there is a practice post area you can use to just post to get your posts up past 5.
