Hi all,

I've been trying to connect a Blu-Ray to my HD700 setup, which I've had for almost 12 years now! I've had no problem running sat tv at 1080i for a number of those years (Dish component out -> Audio Authority component-to-VGA converter -> Transcanner).

Now, I'm trying to add an LG BD670 Blu-Ray and having a heck of a time. I have a new box converting HDMI to VGA and its working fine. I can connect the VGA out to the Transcanner and the picture is great. So, I've got working VGA from the sat and working VGA from the Blu-Ray.

I bought an auto-sensing VGA switch to take the two VGA signals and selectively output one to the Transcanner. The HD700 always shows a solid gray picture when the switch is connected. So, I decided to get a Gamma-X so I could play with the sync (and for gamma correction). However, even when the VGA switch is not in use, injecting the Gamma-X between the old component-to-VGA converter and the Transcanner causes the same gray screen, regardless of the sync setting. (Also, when the Gamma-X is connected to the Transcanner, its LED goes out. Not sure if that indicates a problem.)

Any ideas what may be happening here? Maybe I should ditch the Transcanner, but I'd like to know what's causing the gray screen. Thanks for any help.

Try connecting a computer monitor to the output of the GammaX, and see if that shows a pix. YOu know about the sync inversion switch on the side of the GammaX, right? The DWIN will only take negative sync, whereas a monitor will take either, so that's a quick way of finding out if your signal chain is working.
What HDMI to VGA box do you have? Maybe the GammaX or the VGA switch isn't playing nice with it?

If the light is going off in the GammaX that indicates it's powering off. There may be some incompatibility between the GammaX and the VGA switch. I've seen that before.

Thanks, gents. I haven't had a chance to try a monitor, but it seems like the Transcanner is causing the problem.

When I connect the Gamma-X to the Audio Authority 9A65 Component-to-RGB converter, the Gamma-X light stays on. Good.

When I connect the Gamma-X to the HDMI-to-VGA 1080 Ultimate Converter, the Gamma-X light stays on. Good.

When I connect the Gamma-X to the Transcanner, the Gamma-X light goes out, regardless of whether I have anything connected to the input side, whether or not I have applied power to the Gamma-X or whether the sync switch is set to Pass or Inv! I tried all combinations.

The VGA switch may be encoutering the same problem... Transcanner is not playing nice, or so it would seem.

I've had success connecting Blu-Ray -> HDMI-to-VGA Converter -> Gamma-X (was set to INV) -> Computer Monitor. I then unplugged the VGA cable from the computer monitor and plugged it into the Transcanner. The Gamma-X LED went out and there was no picture coming from the Transcanner. I switched the synch to PASS. Still no LED and still no picture. I don't know what's up with my Transcanner. But, now I'm thinking that I should just do away with the Transcanner (like losing an old friend!) and get an automatic HDMI switch with RGBHV female BNC output and synch selection, if that exists. Any advice is appreciated.
