Not sure if Curt is "on the road trip" yet or not; but if anyone has ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Here's the scenario:

While the projector was ON, there was a power loss @ my house. It happens all the time, and I've had surge protectors all my life..just for the transient surges.

But AS USUAL, power goes out, my house alarm goes off, and 4 or 5 seconds later, the power comes back on. Happens maybe 1-2 times a month when I'm home @ least.

But when I powered the projector back ON, I now get these distortions:

I thought @ first all I needed to do was a reconvergence, but it's not JUST that.

There are no error lights on...the projector is running operating as NORMAL...it's just that the distortion/double images are there....even in the on screen menus..........whether there's a signal there (like the Xbox)..or not. Do you have any idea what could be the issue, and what I can do or check?

Thanks.
Mike

No, I hadn't reset anything @ this point. I DID already try different recall memories though.

I'll try resetting the CLM to see what affect that has.

Your CLM appears to be damaged. This may not be repairable.

Surge protectors are good, but they don't really protect when you have a ground problem. if your house grounding is weak, which is usually caused from corroded or an oxidized ground rod, your electrical system could experience servere Brown-Out surges that would usually be adsorbed from a properly grounded electrical system.

The best solution to fix or eliminate this problem in the future would be to have a 10ga ground wire connected from the ground on your main panel to your metal water utility pipe. That is the quickest and most effect fix possible to cure this problem. Even the surge protection in the protector power supply would need the earth ground to properly work.

Thanks for the direction guys....OK,resetting the CLM had no affect, except the image is a lot dimmer.

Thanks for the advice Mike.

If you think the CLM is the cullprit as well, I DO have a 2nd 8500 on hand, so I'll try swapping the CLM and see what affect that has.

Swapped the CLM from the other 8500, and still getting the distortion, so it must be something beyond the CLM @ this point.

Sorry, was in town all day, catching up with an old high school buddy that I haven't seen since 1981. Good times, no work!

Do what everyone said, in the service menu, do a complete initialization, which it sounds like you already did, since when you reset the unit, the contrast resets to 30, and everything else goes to 50. If that doesn't do it, swap the CLM. If not that, then the LVPS. Then the HDM. I can't see it being anything but one of those. I can fix whatever has gone bad if you want a backup.

Wow....hadn't noticed that...it was so hard to read though.

BUT I decided to take the "easy way out"...my original 8500 was still functioning...I'd simply replaced it with a Vision2.

So I simply took the Vision2 case & placed it on the 8500 that still knows it's an 8500 Very Happy .
Don't know why I didn't think to do that initially Embarassed , especialy since the original had already been professionally calibrated/touched-up just a couple of months back Rolling Eyes

Since I'd taken the HD-145s off the original as well, I simply put them back on it, and wah-lah...back in business.

At Worst, not including the malfunctioning part (whatever it is), I have 3 good tubes and a few other parts I can use down the road, if necessary.

But this is definitely weird. Nothing else in the entire house was affected..just the usual need to reset the clock on the microwave. Not even the cheap stuff, that's not on any type of surge protection.

But thanks Curt and all for all the help and suggestions.

Get an isolation transformer to put the Marquee on.

I think the Vision machines actually identified themselves as Vision 1,2, etc. but they all default back to 8000 with a serious enough fault or if you swap the CLM enough times with many different versions. My 8500 test-machine in the shop thinks it's an 8000 but it still works just fine.
In this case I think the issue on the VIM and the only the green channel becasue R + B look fine. If it was a CLM DPB issue all 3 would be affected.
I'm going to further stick my neck out and say it's either the primary CL449 RGB amp or the secondary AD834/835 quadrupler Wink

BTW, if your power goes out that often, I'd throw a small UPS on the unit. WHile this failure shouldn't really have happened, intermittent power loss to any CPU is not a good idea.
