I am looking into selling my G90 as it presents too many issues to install, unless I can lower the ceiling in my basement 4.5 inches cheaply it is just too much work. I would have to reroute ductwork among other things and even then the PJ would hang to low to use my riser. Everything I have now would be useless, and I would have to start over from scratch.
I just aint ready for that, I just wanna watch movies.
So unless I come up with some brilliant idea for the install, I am going to sell the whole lot.
I am gonna wait a couple weeks and think it through before I offer the sale, it really hurts to think about giving up my dream but at some point its all just too much.
So the question is now if I sell the G90 with the factory ceiling mount and remote along with the 106" draper clarion screen and the lumagen vision hdq vp as a package what would be a fair price ? When its all said and done I got about 1800.00 in it.
Any guesses ? I wanna be fair, but I dont wanna give it away either.
Any input is appreciated
Thanks, Jeff

All depends on tube wear for the PJ. Shipping screens is a pain unless you have the original shipping carton. The lumagen is worth prolly 125 to 150. Figure mount at around a 100.

First to be clear,I am going to sell it on EBAY.
Lowering it is a big part of the problem, getting it the ability to move back and forth is the bigger issue, it would involve rerouting a lot of stuff.

FYI, the last few G90s on eBay sold for well under $1K. I bought 2 of them at $770 for a low hour working one, and $660 for one that had a bad V board. If that's in the ballpark that you want to sell it for, shoot me an email.

SO YOU'RE THE ONE ! I should have known ! I have been hoping to find a good green tube but the price for JUST a tube is a killer. It seems that it is cheaper to buy an entire pj.

Hey, to be fair, I didn't snipe either of them I got outbid on one, won the other one while I was out of town, was surprised to see that I got it, and then got an email from the seller of the first one, saying the high bidder didn't come through.

Why would you need to move a projector back and forth? Just hang it in the correct spot right away.
Position the projector on a (low) table, move it around and get it positioned optimally for table mount and then just flip the dimensions/mounting position around and you know where to put it on the ceiling. Moving a projector on a ceiling is for people who are not informed well enough.

Jeff, not sure how much stuff you are talking about having to move, but you might be surprised how cheap custom ductwork is. Rather than relocating, can you avoid lowering the unit by shortening/fatten-out a duct in the area of the PJ from maybe 8"round to 4x12 - that isn't even custom -- two cuts, $20 of adapters, and viola. Any water and gas lines can be done (and to code) with nipples and flex hoses, etc. Seems a shame to throw in the towel.
Or what about a floor installation or use of a mirror box?

Jeff, I can likely swing by around memorial day on my visit to the grandmother in-laws -- the wife approved a side trip/escape for me. I'd be happy to help for a day should you want to play.

LOL ! yeah, no crisis at all. I am going to enjoy what I have. I really like my G70 and thought the G90 would be great but not if I gotta start from scratch, That was kinda the whole point of this thread. I was just trying to figure out what would be a fair price to ask for everything.
P.s. I dont recall calling it a G90 nitemare.

If you had the G70 there what is so difficult about putting up a G90???
Find out how much for shipping to Australia, and a forum member here named Aussie Al might be interested... Youll need tube shots though...

The problem with mounting is there is only one location I can put the PJ without rerouting a whole bunch of stuff and having my wife go ballistic. What i did with the G70 was mount it where I had to and then move the screen to the correct throw distance. It wasnt as easy as you might think but it is doable. I could mount the screen like a portable chalkboard and when set up is complete hard mount the screen in a permanent position.
So does that sound feasible ? If so I have a few more questions.(imagine that.)

Jeff,
Swap the G70 with the G90; exactley where everything is! Even if you might not be getting the "absolute most" out of the G90 tube face, I think you will still be very, very pleased with the outcome.
I am using a smaller screen than you. Could I get a bigger picture? Sure I could. Heck, I just spent my next 2 years savings on new tubes. I am not going to get a bigger screen; I could, but I am not.
I am sure some folks here will blast me for this, but, I am going to have Craig install the new tubes and we are going to watch the HELL out of this G90 projector! Life is short! The tubes that are in our G90 now are in very good condition. I would say they are about an 8 on Curt's scale.
It does not matter at this point in our lives. We are going to enjoy this as much as possible. We'll worry about tomorrow, when tomorrow gets here.
Enjoy it today!

Wallace, A bigger screen isnt really the issue. I think I am going to have to go to a 106 inch screen to keep inside the tube wear pattern
I would like to keep it at 110" but it is what it is. The throw distance is the real issue. Craig could tell you the issues I have. Will making the screen temporarily mobile work ?

Jeff, yes - moving the screen will work. Or, if you need the make the screen a bit smaller to stay inside the wear, make the screen a little smaller! If it needs to be a bit bigger, make it a bit bigger!
I assume the G90's throw is a bit longer than the G70... But, with the smaller wear area, it may end up being closer to the G70's throw than it would seem.
I honestly don't see any reason, why if you had a G70 mounted and working you wouldn't be able to have a G90 mounted and working.

Jeff,
I agree with Steve. Not sure of your existing tube wear pattern, but on my g90, I have the displayed picture outside of the existing tube wear. Can I see it? Sure, if I look really, really close during some very bright scenes. And that is only about 1"-2" worth on the outside.
When I try to point this problem to other folks watching, they laugh and say stuff like, "What are you talking about?"
But for me, after watching all the projectors I have, and others for over 5+ years now, well, yes, I am going to bite-the-bullet and have new tubes installed and enjoy it while I can.
Jeff, I am not getting any younger (mid 50's) and want to enjoy stuff while I can.
Heck, if I could redo my entire home theater, I would. The amount of info I have learned from the great folks here would be great; 5 years ago!!!
But, the time I have spent here, knowledge I have gained and friends I have made, well, like my saying goes, Life Is Good! (But BBQ is better!)
Dude; enjoy!!!

Yeah you're right, when it comes to altering the house in any way she rules. I am down to one income stream and with summer coming there is always much more expense so my money gets tighter. I bought the oppo assuming I wasnt going to hang the G90, now I will probably have to wait awhile. I dont mind, the g70 really looks great. When the budget allows I will put the g90 up, although I would like to get a better green tube for it first, And set it up just once. As you all know very well its not my strong suit. So I guess I will just play it by ear for now,who knows somebody might want to buy the TEA PARTY inventory I have left over. (or I could win the powerball)

Jeff, I really don't think you will have much trouble mounting the G90 in a good spot. Worst case, just put it where the G70 is and we will work with that. Your screen can be made larger or smaller because of the way you designed it. If we need to make it bigger we will, and I don't think we will need to make it smaller (but even if we do, not much).
What I suggest is mount the G90 where the G70 is and use uni-strut rails. Give me as many inches as you can with the uni-strut to move the projector forward or backward. Whatever you have I can work with. Even if we can't move the projector at all.
