It's definitely not the lens. The first thing I did was pull the lens off to see if it was dust, hair, etc. With the lens off (PJ turned off) I examined the lens itself, the C-element and phosphor and found nothing. With the lens still removed, I then turned the PJ on and the contrast down (material was DVE overscan pattern) and could see the dots on the illuminated phosphor image. The dots are present regardless of source material.

The other thing is that I watched these dots come out of no where while I was adjusting the green random access as part of geometry touch up. It's got to be a digital artifact, the question is what the hell is causing it. To add to the confusion they popped up in an area where I hadn't done any adjustment Confused

WTF???

Reset your zone to default values (press the zero button while on the zone screen). I would reset for all three colors.

I pulled up the guided convergence grid and hit zero (cycled through all 3 colors) which re-set the dynamic and static convergence and I still see the dots on the green field.

Another thing I noticed is that if I adjust the green grid via random access the dots remain stationary even as the grid moves. Some how I get the feeling that is really bad...

Ok , maybe it is a CLM issue . Remove and clean ic U7 on the DPB. Youll need a IC puller from radio shack. Or a quick check before you buy a chip puller is to remove the DPB from the CLM. Place it on a flat no static surface and press down on the U7 chip, it might "snap" , that is ok. It be great if you could capture the dots in a pic.

Nash-

Do you have a photo/schematic of the DPB/CLM? If I remove the DPB do a run the risk of losing any settings? I tried to take several photos but I couldn't capture the spots.

Yes, or unwanted signals from the CLM. We have seen that with black horizontal lines before.

Thats what I was thinking, it might be a similar issue.

I dont have a pic but its easy to see. U7 is written on the Smaller board. its the board on the left side if looking at the CLM from the metal plate that has the lights on it.

At work all night, went golfing in the am and sucked real bad! Sad

I pulled out the control module. That chip has labels over it that say "Madrigal 5.6"; it was modded by Hi-Rez last May. Unless I'm missing something it looks like that chip is soldered in place (and some very delicate soldering it was).

This is a photo of one of the dots

This appears to be the U7 chip; which doesn't look like an easy task to remove or re-attach

One question to make sure its not an electronic artifact, are they in some sort of pattern or just random.

What is that????? U7 is always in a socket so it can be upgraded by swapping later.

Tim, Some of the later Marquee's have soldered U7 chips. I know of some who have mentioned they have soldered in Chips on the CLM, not only U7 but others as well.

Not a good sign. Id say its the tube. Is that pic off the tube or off the screen? I ask cause how visible is it on normal material?

Sorry

The picture is off the screen. Well after all the hard work to get it set up I end up being screwed by a shittty VDC tube with less than 1000 hours on it. What a f*cking joke...
