I have a BG1209s/E that is equipped with a SEMU and COG card.

Is it easy just to remove these extra cards or how are they integrated into the unit?

I also think about removing the port3 card, but I guess that is the same way as my old 1208s/2, just unplug it and all is fine.

Why remove? I dont use them, I dont plan to use them and they add to power consumption (=heat) and reduced airflow in the unit (I am looking at trying to reduce noise).

I looked at the service manual, but I cant find them mentioned there, maybe there is extra manuals that covers these extra cards.

There should be cutted wire links in 1209s rgb driver board, those need to be resoldered when SEMU is removed from controller box.

Port3 and COG are easy to to remove, just unplug boards.

Same thing with Iris, if you don't need it. Iris board is installed to controller box.

Thanks Ile, looks like I should have done my homework there....

Removing the COG certainly seems like too much work in the internals for it to be interesting for me.

@secstate: Yes I thought about that too but geometry is pretty... perfect as it is already.
I do have horizontal linearity, I had no idea that was and extra. I probably dont really need it since I looked at that yesterday and too me it looks (and measures) perfectly without touching it.

I will look at the SEMU card to see if I want to remove it. Looks like it isnt certain that it looks the same for Cine9/909 in the thread Ile points to as it does for 1209s/E. If all is needed is the jumper, I might actually have one in my spare 1208s/2. Will check.
Otherwise I might just leave it. I was hoping for a simple "just unplug" answer Smile

Leave COG board.
It could be fine to adjust some green convergence issue.

SEMU boards are useless with only one projector.
Remove any SEMU components and pull R762720 board.
Locate in that board three cutted jumpers and resolder.

Reinsert R762720 board.
Done!

I removed SEMU on my 1209s/E. No problems; just disconnect and re-solder the jumpers.

I have remove port 3 card (simple as described).

I have found the RGB driver board and the jumpers (and there two connectors with wires going to the SEMU in the controller box). My plan is to simply disconnect the connectors and solder the jumpers as described here.

However, on top of the RGB driver card is a "contrast modulation" board(R7624845). What is that? I thought that the SEMU was for blending, but is this something similar?

I think that you removed IBCL link module, not port3.
In fact, IBCL Link board occupies the slot of port3.

In the picture below you can see the SEMU elements

Contrast modulation is ultra rare module and it can work alone. Leave it!

I am pretty sure I removed the port 3 since I already have two sitting in a box here Smile

I will doublecheck to be 100% sure.

Looks like the pictures you does not correspond to the cards I have.

Well, at least the PJ works perfectly without the port 3 card (I am pretty sure it is the right card, it was connected to the port3 connector on the switcher card and looks exactly and have the same partnr as the other port 3 cards I have).

I removed the two connections from the RGB output card that is marked "to soft edge module" and soldered the jumpers back on. The PJ works perfectly Smile

In the controller box, are both card 1 and card 2 in this picture to be removed? (I guess it is hard to leave card 1 after 2 has been removed Smile

)
So the fan is only for semu?

I also "found" (have never really thought about it before) the contrast modulation in the menus of the barco. I guess that is what the card that was attached to the output card was all about. Dont know what it really does but I am sure I can read up on that.

The card 1 is Iris interface. The card 2 is SEMU interface (with his little fan).
You must remove both cards.
Then Insert card 1 in the only one slot present.

I removed both the SEMU card and the IRIS card (never used IRIS anyway).

Removing the SEMU was a good idea, I am pretty sure that the noise was greatly reduced! First start of the PJ and I could hear a difference. Must have been the small fan on high rpm resonating in the controller box that is now removed.
