This is getting awfully close to your $1k barrier. Honestly I am shocked that AVS can offer a JVC RS40 b-stock for $1800 shipped. This thing was $3700 last year. The RS45 lowered the price down to $2700 when it came out this year. I am not sure if new JVCs will ever get below this price, but $1k off for a one year old pj is pretty impressive.

It would be tempting if I were in the market but this is why when the Runco 1100 gives up the ghost I'll most likely got digital. Though I am hoping it gives me many more years of use yet.

IIRC, CMS is not included.

No, a CMS isn't included. It isn't as big of a deal as it was with the RS1. As Kris mentioned, you can add a Lumagen to get a CMS.

| Quote: | | If you’re looking for a quick setup, you’ll probably want to stick with the Natural or Film memory presets. They seemed to track the closest to the Rec. 709 color gamut with the Standard Color Space preset selected. JVC also offers two Wide color preset options that bring the gamut quite a bit farther out than the reference Rec. 709 gamut. But even with the wider gamuts, the DLA-X3 does a nice job of balancing the color points. It offers a visible difference in saturation if you want more punch from your colors without the expense of gaudy fleshtones like we saw from the early D-ILA models. You can also force a Color Space input such as Y/Cb/Cr 4:2:2 or 4:4:4, although I didn’t see much difference in performance with either option. I just left mine in Auto. |

The biggest issue with the RS40/45 seems to be quick bulb dimming. If you watch the pj a lot, then you would probably go through a lot more bulbs than another pj. Of course if you put over 10 hours a day on your pj like one guy at AVS, then maybe a pj isn't for you. Either that or don't bitch about bulbs.

I'm a little surprised a lamp issue is still at hand with the 40/45. I haven't read on any of the upper end JVC models to know know if they use a different lamp.ballast, but this seems like a penalty--although the price is attractive.

I don't believe the previous generation of JVCs had a lamp problem. JVC moved to a new lamp manufacturer with the 40/50/60. I think Haflich mentioned that they were going to a new manufacturer in new 45s soon. That should mean that replacement lamps should perform on par with other pjs out there. Of course, time will tell.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but unless he ran the cr/br low he still would have to replace the tubes every year and a half or so. A better approach is to actually turn off the pj and do something else.
