I'll be downloading a few of them. Simon and Garfunkel and Chicago VI are in the can, and Santana is pooching out and has an hour or two left.
I'm seeding back... My new connection is pretty nice - even upstream... I've uploaded 537MB already of the 2.86GB Santana file.
I'll get some enjoyment out of these discs... Thanks for posting, Cliffy! Daddy like!

get ready to have a beefy internet connection though! http://the-quad-blog.blogspot.com/
There are some serious gems on that page for sure!
I've also been listening to my vinyl a lot lately as well. Seriously, when done right, vinyl sounds freaking awesome.
I'm actually tempted to contact this guy in LA, pick this stuff up and sell it LOL.

Welcome to the forum, OxfordDicke! Lots of analog nuts here in our little corner of the world, and you've certainly got a new fan in me!
Growing up as a kid in the 70's, my dad had a huge Fisher receiver with (I think) an SQ decoder in it and a four speaker setup. Live recordings especially sounded amazing! He also still had a decent vinyl collection, lots of R2R's and his Sony R2R deck. He still has every bit of it all... None of it is "hi-fi" by any standards, and I can't afford any of the stuff I want (and don't have room for it anyway), so I can live vicariously through people like you and the work you're doing. So, thanks!
Kudos to you and thanks again!

Crab was it the ARS 747 or the Fisher 601? they are the one in the same and I am selling mine for cheap on e-bay right now.
Its beat up but i got a almost like new Fisher 601 I will be using in a dedicated quad set up.
So what do you use to play back those files on a Mac? DVD player? Or do I have to burn it to DVD and play it in my oppo.

Hey, Athanasios -
If you have the Mac connected to your DD/DTS decoder via SPDIF, you can mount the ISO's and use DVD Player to play. But, I just burned discs and threw them in a player because I don't have a Mac in the theater. It's easy, anyway.
I did a little Googling... Looks like it was a Fisher 304. 1973-4'ish, and from what I can tell, a bit newer (and less interesting/valuable) than the one you have.
It's really too bad... All my dad's stuff is just ho-hum mid-fi stuff (Fisher receiver, turntable I don't remember, Sony TC-630 R2R, four cool corner-loading speakers (don't remember brand) for quad...
It's sad, because all his stuff is pretty much mint. If he'd have spent a bit more back in the day on some audiophile stuff, he'd have some super-cool sh*t now.
Found on some website the Fisher 304 was like $299 retail in 1973 and 1974. According to this inflation calculator, that $300 Fisher would be like $1200 now!!! Sounds like it's worth about $20, now.

That ARS 747 just sold for 25 plus change, lol it was 598 in 1971. I just needed room so i didn't care what it went for. 25 bucks for some vinyl is the way I look at it!!
The 601 quad unit I kept since it is 1000 times better condition i got for 110. I was hoping I'd get at least 50 for the 747, ow well.
Hope the buy can restore it or use it well, it plays load and clear for 34 watts per channel.
I just need one more AR2x to make my quad retro system.
Athanasios

Well when it comes down to a great amp, that can double as a great 5 channel amp, find a used Krell KAV-500. Both build quality and sound are excellent ! (100 wpc )

So where is the best place to find prerecorded 7 1/2 and 15 ips tapes that aren't ruined?
I picked up a Pioneer 1020h reel-to-reel recently, and wand to play around with some stuff.
Also, anybody ever heard of a 1970s NW blues band called Hebadia? Because I have the original 1/2" tapes and the 1/4" master tape of a live album of theirs which doesn't look like it was ever released. Sounds pretty incredible! I can't find much info on google...
Neat though!
