Newegg had a promo code (EMCNJHN29) on the Logitech G27 racing wheels for $209 with free shipping, so I ordered one. I plan to run it off the little 3D Acer DLP projector, (Gotta save the CRT tubes for the good stuff) I have a pretty kick ass video card in my HTPC so it should have the horsepower to handle about anything.
My question is does anybody have any recommendation on what driving software is any good? I'm not really interested at this time on anything that has a monthly fee and don't really care about racing anyone online until I my skills set better.

I think games but I don't really care for the role-playing bull that Need for Speed has....Looking at F1 2011...Most of the reviews look good. To be honest I'm not sure what the difference is between sim or driving games.

A sim is much more realistic, with very accurate physics models. Traction, braking, acceleration, horsepower-weight ratios, are all very realistic with the sim. You can use the sim to develop real skills on very realistic tracks and understand lines, entry/exit speed, and car handling. Hone skills offline, then race online where people expect you to race like you would at the track, meaning you let faster drivers pass, don't hit, and drive with care like real cars are involved - all for the most realistic experience.
If the sim experience sounds interesting, go to YouTube and search for "iracing", the preeminent PC racing sim. It will blow your mind. Check out some of the rigs people build. If you have a pretty hot PC, you could definitely have some fun.
Games are more about fun - less realistic, but fun. Win races, get trophies, level up, get better cars, etc.
I play GT5 on PS3 with a bunch of guys. We race once a week. It's about halfway between sim and game when you race online with a good group of guys.

Yes. Yes I can. I get a similar reaction to when I think about having a 4k projector in my theater.
Where's the drool emoticon?

The DLP pj should be great for something like this, since the racing should be done during the daylight. The lack of on/off cr shouldn't matter as much.

I forgot that you have actually seen Peri's sim. That probably makes the desire worse.

Pretty cool.
Now how about we throw in SOWK's scope screen with Lumagen scaler?

Mike, i have the older version, G25. I have DiRT one and two, and both are awesome fun with that wheel and a big screen. I do prefer DiRT one over the 2nd though, i havent tried the 3rd.
Also, if you really want some of the most AWESOME driving fun you can ever have, go and get the Nebula model 2 emulator, and get into some Sega Rally Championship and Daytona USA... You can also link them up and play up to 8 players via LAN or the internet ( using Hamachi )
You pretty much need this wheel or the G25 for the shifter to play the above two games if you want to use manual trans ( since Daytona cant be played near as well with auto ) These 2 games on that emulator are the very reason i bought the G25 way back in the day.
Have a look at a couple videos of those games on that emulator ( poor quality as they are, especially my Sega Rally vid, you get the idea... )
This is an older version of the emulator too, so its not as good as it is now and did have some glitches then that have been fixed:
