Hi guys, I need XP tablet edition for a tablet PC the currently has the Vista Virus on it.
I'm not entirely clear on how to get it.
Is there a separate COA for tablet or is there a way to use the XP Pro license and add the tablet edition stuff to it?

It allows you to write on the screen with a pen.

The wife and I were over at Lenox Square Mall today to visit another Apple store. We were surprised that a Microsoft store was there. I didn't know Microsoft had stores. Not much to look at, but I was surprised by the Samsung Slate computer running W7. This was a full blown computer in slate form and no tablet.
Of course, the $1299 price just furthered the notion of a slate computer. Powerful, portable, and EXPENSIVE as hell.

I recently got an HP TC1100 Tablet PC from a friend for trade. The OS installed was of course, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. As usual when I am given a computer it has virus's and spyware all over it so I went ahead and proceeded to format it.
While I was doing this I was googling Tablet PC edition and to many peoples dismay who have an XP Tablet PC and need to reformat it, they are in for a world of hurt.
Microsoft never released a consumer version of XP Tablet PC Edition because of the tablet based software. Since it is designed for a small percentage of older tablet computers the only way to get it is either through MSDN.com or through your XP Tablet PC manufacturer, such as HP.
Tablet PC Edition is a 2 part disk, much like windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is. The first disk is XP Professional as we all know and love. The second disc contains the tablet PC Edition software.
Now provided the install goes as it should, while your installing your XP Pro that comes with the 2 disc tablet edition, it is supposed to prompt you for the 2nd disc and then install the tablet PC edition software.
I am going to give you a heads up, if your tablet only has a digitizer and no finger touch capability, you are going to have a blast of a time setting the tablet up, as the pen for digitizers will not work in XP Tablet Edition until the driver is installed by you.
If you don't install tablet PC edition, and just put XP on, you will more than likely NOT be able to use the digitzer/touch capability of your tablet.
If the tablet you have came with Vista, put windows 7 on it, putting XP on it is like throwing windows 95 onto a brand new computer that came with windows 7, totally pointless and nothing but a hassle.
Windows 7 has native Tablet PC features if it detects any type of touch input device (even if it doesn't install the touch device as touchscreen) during install.
Hope this helps

Nope. I don't like 7. I'd be in for $239 to buy it when I can get XP T for much less.
Thanks for the heads up on the 2 piece disks. My PC is a Fujitsu U820. I have ALL the XP drivers for it as XP Tablet was an option to OEM's that purchased more than 10 PC's at a time. Unfortunately for me a single user got stuck with the Vista Virus. I can't wait to get the Vista virus off of there. Worst OS **EVER**. Especially with only 1GB RAM and no upgrade option.

Interesting on the XP plain install. Boy, I seemed to recall installing XP Professional and then downloading all the pen add-ons and drivers for my lenovo X61t and those we use in my lab...guess I am mistaken on that. I switched from XP to 7 with no probs about a year ago, excepting a few minor things and apps that I have set to run in XP compatibility mode with no issues. Although there were some annoyances with 7 and the pen (particularly within office and onenote) that required time to fix, my wife likes the ease of homegroup setup and I can deal with the rest.
