it could work on an exchange base but since my clm is modded and has over 200usd in parts on it this is not an option.

currently i am not interested in a extra clm Twisted Evil .

i would be interested in this as a diy package for about 100usd less, i don`t like the idea of shipping back and forth my clm so i cannot use my pj for about 2 weeks.
i use my pj on a daily base approx 4-6 hrs.

We will look into a DIY kit, we would need to render our eprom uncopyable to preserve our investment, and we could not assure a successful result on the workmanship of other folks.

Hi Tim,

I would agree with Dennis. DIY at US$100 will be more attractive package. To ship to & fro from Singapore to US would be very costly.

Looking forward for this.

Well Guys

Our first Anti-Banding test clm had issues, so Paul has finished a second clm and I should have it Friday!

Mod is fairly involved. I'm using a rework machine for the solder removal and installation. This one is not for the faint of heart if you dont have the right equipment.....

what needs to be removed?
from the pictures i have seen there are 2 chips that go on top of eachother and are connected via wires.

sorry to hear the clm had issues, hope the next one will be better.

Dennis, You are correct, a chip goes ontop another chip, those fine pitch leads need connected, then wires come off of it and go to another chip that you have to lift half way off the CLM. It takes precision and low heat to avoid damage to those 3 ICs and the CLM traces, and to avoid solder bridges. I am using a $2K rework station to do the work. I think I have the process down now, but for those that dont think Tim's price is worth it, it is not your run of the mill mod you can do with a standard soldering station. Tim and I are talking about ways to make it more of a production modification, but I'm thinking without a whole new U44 that combines the two firmwares or a full CLM board spin, the mod in its present form is the best it will be.

I think in this case DIY = Destroy it Yourself Razz There's maybe 3 or 4 people on this forum capable of doing this and with the right equipment. Everyone else would wind up with electronics recycling material. This is NOT a DIY kit

I thought about combining the two chips but i do not think its doable. The communication would have to be re written in the marquee's programing. If the engineer who wrote the new chips program couldn't do it then i doubt we could. I think Scot mentioned it need a different chip that has its pin configurations different than how its set up now, and an entire new designed board would be needed in that section.

I was thinking of making a separate PCB board, not sure how to implement it yet.

Yeah, I was thinking a seperate daughter board myself, but you still have the solder connections, and now they will be longer, and you run the chance of introducing noise. I think the mod is as good as it can be without a full CLM board spin. I think its important those connections are as short as possible.

Tim are you guys planning to replace any of the Tantalum caps on there, like the primary power Decoupling caps which seem to be going bad?

I am not seeing problems on these, even on fifteen year old projectors.

Yes, my turn around time will be a few days. If someone needs quicker, we can discuss.

Order page is now up. See: http://www.curtpalme.com/MARQUEE_BANDING_MOD.shtm
