I was recently given a Runco 900 and I have no idea how to even get this thing running. I plugged it in and a fan came on but no light came out of the lenses. So I thought maybe I need to have a vcr or cable hooked up to it but when I went to hook up a source none of my cables would link up. Do I need to buy special cables? Where could I get them and what would they be called? What about not lighting up? Should it? If it doesn't light now what do I need to do? On the out side of the box that this came in is written refurbished tubes like new. I would like to set up a TV room in the basement for this thing should I proceed or bail out? Thanks for any info you can provide me.

I do have the full set up remote and a smaller remote but I don.t know if either of them work. I ordered the breakout cable as someone suggested. I have read most of what you have suggested and I will read all again . thanks for the help and I will be getting back with you. Thanks

The setup remote is a must to make things easy. Get some batteries in that ASAP

If the set was working when it was taken out, then great. If it's been sitting a while, keep in mind that the set is about 18 years old, and the older NEC PG sets have lots of issues now due to th eold age of parts. Just do a search here for NEC PG capacitors to see what we're talking about.
Without an input signal, you should be able to get through the menus and internal test patterns. They will be jumpy and jittery as the set needs an input signal to lock to, but at least you'll see if the set is outputting a picture.
