Wow..that really sucks. All that work and you don't even have one for yourself. How did the bug start the fire?

There isn't enough market to off-set the effort. Even if every whack-job Marquee owner on this forum bought two Laughing

Now for the sake of arguement, how much do you think it would cost (start to finish and I mean complete with paint) to produce just one set and how much WOULD the average Marquee owner be willing to spend on a cover set that looks as good as the OP's???

Even with a perfect original set, you'd spend a couple of weeks using them just to make reusable molds to re-produce them.

So if you factor in labor and materials, you'd probably have to sell ten sets at $750.00 a set just to break even.

If $750 meant a 100% finished product (painted) that is actually not an unreasonable price. But to your point, you would have to find 10 parties willing to spend that much and the CRT hobby is mostly occupied by DIY cheap skates Laughing

Forget the paint work for a moment, the real question is what would the cost be for a good fiberglass lay up tech to create the molds and then actually use them to produce the case?

No comment but something about "hitting the nail on the head" comes to mind Wink

I can't think of a nicer setup I have seen for along time. Hats off to you and the effort you made to create the ultimate in my mind. I own a Sony G90 and saw a similar setup where they had a G90 painted in ebony black. I tried to find out where and how they went about it but couldn't get any answers. I've been looking for a new G90 cover as mine has afew scratches but no luck. Having looked at your Vision One and the other pictures posted on their beautiful units I want one! Until then I will purse getting mine custom painted. Great posting!! Very Happy

Thanks so much Gavin, your photos and description went above and beyond the call of duty Thumbs Up

Regarding the G90 case, I believe it was Jim Parys that painted his black. It should be much easier to paint because its not fiberglass and there is no clear coat to worry about. A wagner spray gun from home depot and a dry day with no wind and you could bang it out in your back yard..or take it to a body shop. It shouldn't cost much because there really isn't any significant prep work (unless the case is damaged and require repairs)

I wasn't even aware of this. I was the guy that provided the case molds to derfla.

I guess that project's up in smoke. Literally.

Let's use this topic for something informative. If you have any photos of the several variants of the fancy kinds of cases that
Marquees have been dressed up with, not just the Vidikron versions but the ones used by Accurate Imaging and any other company that sold customized Marquees, post them here.

It'd be nice to have a reference library for the various case styles that we might encounter.

I can post some pics of the Accurate the next time I service my client's unit in Dallas. That's a sweet body and an unbelievable projector.

I had to turn down buying a Vision Two for the sole reason being that I just had two LVPS units go down, within a day of each other, and need to get at least one replacement. (I had a good spare, but only one.) Yeah, if I'd bought it, for just 200 bucks, then I'd have another LVPS, a set of neck cards, a nice case, a road case, and a whole projector full of spare parts, but I really do NOT need to be buying another projector when I'm already out of room.

The Vision Two is listed on ebay (or was) and is located in New Jersey. The seller accepted my 200 dollar offer, but due to the calamity already mentioned, I had to back out. With freight charges that would have cost probably 500 dollars to get it to me, and now is just not the time for me to do that.

This seems to be the ultimate candidate for a large 3D printer project.
