|
|
I need to remove a password from a computer (my employees are suppose to write the password on a Post-it note, but what they're suppose to do and what they actually do are two different things). I'm using this: http://www.pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html I have a bootable thumb drive that's worked for me before, but this computer doesn't recognize it. So I've been trying to burn an iso file with Free Easy Burner and I'm not having any luck. Not having any experience at burning isos isn't helping.
The password removal website says: Once written the CD should only contain some files like "initrd.gz", "vmlinuz" and some others. If it contains the image file "cd??????.iso" you didn't burn the image but instead added the file to a CD.
I'm selecting burn an image file in Easy Burner but I'm still ending up with a single iso file.
I'm pretty frustrated at this point. Any suggestions?

Before you do that, have you checked the computer's BIOS? You may be able to set it up to recognize the thumb drive.
I usually use http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn ISOs.

An ISO is an image file. It is what is required to make it a bootable cd.
Which password are you trying to get around?

My frustration continues. I went to the Image Burn site and clicked on the first download button I saw. The site has ads interwoven with it's content and I ended up downloading a different program that included a bunch of unwanted software. I was wondering why you would use such a program Gary, but I finally figured out I had the wrong one.
I still having the same problem with Image Burn. It burns the iso file as if it was a data file.
Update: While I was writing this I re-downloaded the iso file. The first one must have been corrupt, as the new file is smaller than the first and burned just fine!
Mac I'm trying to remove a Vista admin password. I used the same program about a month ago to remove an XT Pro password. It worked great.

What Mac said. I'm a complete computer idiot, and that one worked for me the first time after struggling with others for a few hours..
