I'm running the AVSHD calibration disk on my Win7 HTPC with i3 CPU and iGPU playing on a LG UH10LS20K Blu-ray player.

When I run the 1-Black Clipping pattern under Basic Settings I need to crank brightness all the way just to see the flashing bars at video 16. However the picture is blown out and obviously wrong. Nothing is visible below 16.

If I use the MCE brightness test it shows my original brightness setting is pretty much correct.

Is there some decoding error going on that can screw up video levels? How Do I check or change the video output to full range 1-255?

I am no expert on this topic but I've been seeing a very similar thing in a few tests I've been running.

I'm currently trying to work out a process for calibrating both ps3 and xbox 360s and have been using the mp4 versions of the files. I've converted
the files to work on x360 and measured the converted movies in after effects to make sure they are the same values.

I've found that on a windows machine, quicktime displays the mpg as you describe and windows media player shows it correctly.

The ps3 shows the file as you describe

xbox 360 shows the converted file as expected.

I'm not sure what the fix is, but you aren't alone

Make sure your color space is set correctly all the way to the PJ either set at PC level or Video.

That's what I'm thinking The problem is for this HTPC build I'm using the i3's internal iGPU. I'm not sure how to check or control the PC vs. video levels with the Intel drivers.

I can now see BTB test patterns but I need to boost Brightness on the iGPU. Something is not right though, it looks washed out.

Strange, I never had this issue with my old ATI card over DVI. You would think a new state of the art CPU/iGPU could get this right. Sad
