I don't know of any good DIY surfaces with a gain of 2. Higher-gain surfaces are notoriously finicky and I think it would be very tough to make your own. Hotspotting is a serious problem. If you want really high gain, consider making a torus with some purchased 2-to-3-gain material?

Wilsonart (countertop material) Designer White is the favorite DIY material in the US. It's been measured to have near-perfect color characteristics and approx. 1.26 gain, plus it's washable and nearly indestructible. You can get a 4x8 sheet (1200x2400 mm) for around $100. But I don't know if there's any equivalent available in Europe. You wouldn't want to grab an arbitrary whitish looking countertop material because the color or gloss properties might be all wrong. But what the heck, if it's cheap, it can be a fun project, and you might like it!

Is that 115x292cm? It doesn't look like a 2.35:1 screen.

Those hard-shell screens are amazing (so I hear, I've never seen one) **IF** they're not damaged. They're very fragile and easy to scratch or otherwise damage. Given the "cardboard box and bedsheet" packing job, I'd be veeery cautious. I assume he's probably very close to you so you could go look at it to see if it looks undamaged.

torus power!!!
vutec silverstar.

no hotspots, amazing color saturation, tremendous pop to the image, and did i mention it is bright as hell plus much better brightness uniformity.

next screenshots are from a very rough setup and with just hd10l lenses.

Is that a Torus? If it is, then it is not a Silverstar screen. A Silverstar is flat.

yes tis a torus.
it has a silverish/aluminium finish, what type could it else be?

whatever it is, it beats a flat screen any day, but i want to know.

It is a translucent material over an aluminized substrate. It should give over 5 gain IIRC. $200 or 200 euros, I would take that deal every day of the week. You should easily achieve 20 ft/lmbs with out having to run your settings to high. With this screen, your tubes should last forever. Another benefit of running a low contrast setting is that it is much easier to achieve higher resolutions with increased sharpness.

it has to be seen to be believed, the picture is simply amazing.

contrast is on 45 brightness also 45.

1 on 1 off is razor sharp at 1080p.
