Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [Blu-ray] (1977)

20th Century Fox official announced today that all of George Lucas' 'Star Wars' movies are coming to Blu-ray on September 18th. (One day after my birthday! Well happy birthday to me! Woohoo!)

There will be three different releases, with the major one being 'Star Wars: The Complete Saga' which will be a 9-disc set including all six films plus more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more -- three for a suggested list price of $139.99.

(It's currently available for pre-order on Amazon for only $89.99. That's $14/movie!)

The other two releases, 'Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy' and 'Star Wars: Original Trilogy,' will each be 3-disc sets with a suggested list price of $69.99.

No announcements on any individual or 3D editions have been made at this time.

Release date: Sep 18, 2011

Links to order:

Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [Blu-ray]
Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy (Episodes I - III) [Blu-ray]
Star Wars: The Original Trilogy (Episodes IV - VI) [Blu-ray]

Nice of them to break them up for those that don't want Episodes 1, 2, and 3!

I heard that the original three films were being released in the special edition edit due to them already being re-mastered.

Do any of you know or heard if they will be re-mastering the original versions for the Blu-Ray release?

I haven't....

The "story" in the past when they put out the special editions was that the originals could not be done ... this could be 100% marketing. Who knows.

Yep, Kinda what I heard also. Too much time and effort would be required to redo something that is done alredy in the "Special Editions". I personally do not care either way as I like both versions. Just figured that it would be cool to have both available.

Wife is going to ask yet again how many times i am going to purchase these movies or better "How many copies of that damn movie do you need?"

When my jaw is lifted from the floor I reply "All of them!!!"

Same with the Alien's movies. I just got my Comi-Con limited edition..... It's sweet.

These movies mean a lot of me as they somewhat define my childhood - I remember being mesmerized when I saw the first one in 1977 (I was 8 years old, the perfect age).

I don't consider myself a real fanboy by any stretch of the imagination but the way that George has tinkered with them over the years irks me. I have no issues with tinkering in general (hell, they're HIS movies, he can do whatever he pleases). I just feel that some of the changes he made completely changed the stories and characters and for the worse.

Adding more X-wing fighters digitally years later to better show the scale of the attack on the Death Star? No problems there. That makes sense to me. He could not do that back in the 70's. It shows the scale a lot better.

Getting Greedo to shoot first in the cantina in the later versions of the movie? That was just plain a bad move if you ask me. I still remember at age 8 watching that scene where Han shot Greedo in cold blood to avoid having to pay or be taken to Jabba. I still to this day remember feeling 'wow - he just shot someone for basically no reason - he's bad!'. That absolutely DEFINED his character. At age 8 I had never seen anything like that. In later versions George had him shoot in self defence and it completely changes his character. (For the worse if you ask me). He no longer has that story arc to go through where he goes from bad buy to confused, to helping out win at the end.

And the slapstick/comedy stuff that got added with CGI in later versions when they're first coming in to Mos Eisley. C'mon. No needed, not funny.

Either way, I'm pretty excited to be able play to thes in HD!

This scene with John Williams' score playing always gives me goosebumps:

(Episode 4. We've just met Luke and his aunt and uncle. Luke leaves dinner and is lementing about not being able to leave his planet to go help with the fight with his friends).

Eight months before it comes out. I will wait till we get closer to the release. I wonder how many demos will be playing this for Nash and me at Cedia. Wink

As for the changes, I don't care about all of them except the Greedo scene which is just plain stupid. Of course, Spielberg had walkie talkies. Smile I can't think of this without thinking about that South Park episode. Mr. Green

I'll be there this year...it's only 120 miles for me.

There are rumors flying around Lucas is somehow going to convert it to 3D....Sounds a bad a colorizing an old flix.

Cool, Mike. It sounds like we may have a couple of CRTers in attendance. Some may consider this pathetic (I wouldn't totally argue), but I think Cedia may be the most fun and enjoyment I have all year.

heard the originals will never see the light of day again due to Lucas having to pay the ex royalties. they were divorced between the release and the remaster re-release. if the original is released she gets paid. and we know how much Lucas like getting every cent he can out of his golden goose. love the original trilogy really wish the prequel wasn't such a money grab and had put some thought into it. and found a real actor to portray Anakin.

I love this song by moosebutter. Very inventive use of John Williams tracks.

That scene not only gives me goose bumps but also a slight tear, yeah I'm a sap ;)Athanasios
well cherish that memory, my dad wouldn't take me and my brother to see it , calling it a "stupid fantasy" . I'm STILL angry about that.
I can see why people feel the way they do about 1 thru 3 but episode 1 is the favorite of my 2 boys . Stupid puppet-show pod-race and all. This is also the worst looking one of them all, the transfer was atrocious on all the versions I saw. I hope they at least make it "DVD quality" on the BD release. Rolling Eyes

I have not been reading any of the BD SW threads on the web, but does anyone know if Episodes 4/5/6 will be the original theatrical release version, the first modified versions, or the current modified versions?
