I've been using my Marquee 8000 (mounted my ceiling) for several years now with minimal trouble. Recently though, it will not power on. When I plug in the projector, I hear the fan (I'm guessing this is the LVPS based on some reads of this forum). When I attempt to power on the projector, I can see the diag light indicating that it is receiving the IR signal, but it won't turn on.

Any ideas, on where to start?

I recently upgraded to Blu-ray and added an HDFury to improve the picture, so I'm really missing my proj! Thanks in advance!

Check to see if there are any red error lights on the main LVPS (red lights are behind the front panel) and make sure there are no error lights on the CLM at the back.

If the remote is not hard-wired, replace the batteries. Even if the C light is blinking, if the batteries are critically low it will make the PJ do funky things like not turn on.

It sounds like you're also waaaay past due for a good cleaning; chips, sockets, plugs, card edges, etc. There's tons of references on how to do that here, at AVS, and Googling if you've never done it before.

Okay, my timing is likely revealing the fact, that I have a wife and several kids and have a hard time getting around to my hobbies. I don't regret it, I'm sure the time invested in the family will yielded infinitely more rewards, than tinkering with a PJ. But, I do love movies, so I squeeze it in when I can.

First, thanks for all the hints at where to start. Though I have some technical acumen, I'm new to CRT's. The most I've done so far is mounting, setup, and replace a board at the back that went bad. I started reading the Marquee 8000 tips here and I'll finish that next chance I get.

Of course the hardest thing was getting it off my ceiling without dropping/breaking the PJ or injuring/killing anyone. I have it conveniently positioned on a furniture moving dolly. Now I can easily move it where I need it and move it under the ping pong table when I'm not working on it. This is working great for me, so I recommend it. However, I'm open to better ideas.

What I've done so far:
* Started reading the tips.
* I reseated the HDM( Horizontal Deflection module) several times as suggested here and in the tips.
* Replaced the remote batteries.

Status:
* No error lights on the back of the CLM. I'm just seeing the Standby light and the I/R indicator flickers when I hold down remote buttons.
* Still no power.
* I haven't got to the LVPS yet to see the error lights there.

Plans:
* Dig up a full cleaning procedure and do it while the beast is on the floor.
* Complete reading the Marquee tips here.
* Try fixing anything that the tips say can cause this condition.
* Hope for more brilliant suggestions.

In the meantime:
* What would it cost to get this early model Marquee 8000 modded out to 8500 standards and handling 1080p with ease?
* Is that even an option?
* I need a 9' HDMI cable and I'm looking at blue jean. Is the best place to look?

Hello

OK you are seeing an orange Ready Light so your AC power is likely okay. Are you holding the Power button down for 2-3 seconds? Are you seeing a green On led? Is the C red led flashing on the rear panel? If you are using an IR keypad have you tried new batteries?

Tim,

* The remote batteries are fresh.
* I am holding down the power button for a long time. That did get me the first time I used it, but I'm over the power-up delay now.
* I'm not seeing the green power up led on the back of the CLM.

You asked if the red "c" light was flashing?

I'm having a similar problem but i do get the green "power" light, flashing "c" light when using remote, but still no power up on the tubes. Haven't removed the LVPS panel to check red lights. Is that my next step?

Maybe it is time to strip down the projector and check the belly fans, Possibly 1 has stopped working.

belly fans?

ok i see 'em in my exploded view...

they can be accessed through the bottom without all the disassembly......removing access plate....

also, no LVPS red lights visible through front panel slots with green power light on and fans running...????

with green power light on, all 3 belly fans run, no errors on control module, but alas, no high voltage crackle Sad

any hints guys?

Ken,
Do you have any spare boards to change over?

For me, I would start with the basics,
remove the HDM, - Horizontal,
remove the FCM, - Focus,
unplug the VNB's x3,
unplug the 2x connectors to the rear heatsink Convergence, Vertical boards.
Take the HVPS out.

Then see it the projector runs.

You should get a green led on the control board, the belly fans will run. If not let us know.

If it runs, then put the FCM, Focus board back in and connect focus coils. See if it runs.

If it runs then put the HDM, Horizontal board back in and connect deflection coils. See if it runs.

Continue with the VNB's one at a time. See if it runs.

then continue with the Convergence connector, make sure to connect the convergence coils, otherwise you will cook it. See if it runs.

then contiune with the vertical board connector and plug vertical coils in. See if it runs.

Last would be the HVPS, installed and connected to each tube and splitter.

Let us know how it goes and at what stage nothing happens.

Just a thought after writing all these steps,
be sure the insulation strip is installed on the edge of the heatsink at the connector edge, so no shorts to the chassis.

Sounds like a HDM to me, Horizontal board.
I would install a test unit, or borrow if you can.

If not Curt can do a good deal on one.
