|
|
So... I recently picked up a Benq mw512... this model was released in December, so there's almost no info on it anywhere that I can find. My main question is if anyone knows how to update the firmware and where I can find it... you see, the projector looks excellent (WAAAY brighter than my old hd70)... but only once I configure all the colors, as the red is a little too cool in the stock modes.
What's wrong with that, you ask?
Well, every damned time the projector syncs to a new source or you change the source, the user1/user2 picture settings display with a horrible greenish tint! To fix, I have to reset the user picture mode and enter all my settings again. While it won't make me get rid of the projector quite yet, due to the amazing deal I got on it, it is uber-annoying....
Any ideas? Has anyone heard of this with a Benq before? Seems like it could be easily fixed with a firmware update.
Thanks,
Josh

Are you saving your settings in the user1/user2 sections and are you getting the "settings saved" confirmation?

Yes, of course I'm saving the settings! All my settings are still correct, it's like the image on the screen is completely ignoring them and adding a green hue... to fix it, I have to choose a new "stock" setting under user 1/2 to reset everything, and then re-adjust. (IE, rechoose the user1/2, then choose "cinema" below it, and re-adjust everything... talk about annoying.)

Assuming you're connecting via HDMI, it sounds like a source/projector syncing/locking issue. Have you talked to BenQ? They are going to know more about this than we are considering the unit is almost brand new.

I have the projector connected via hdmi to an Onkyo tx-sr608 which does all my hdmi switching, as well as rgb for the HTPC. Whether just resyncing via hdmi or switching to rgb, this happens. I have contacted Benq support via email, but have not heard back as of yet.
The odd thing is, when it first switches sources, you can see for about .3 seconds that the color is perfect, then it changes to the ugly green tint of doom...
On a side note, does anyone know if the Optoma XL-3D will work with this unit? I'm pretty sure the 3d-gamer unit advertised here will work, but I'm looking for an option that will do the XBOX 360 "side-by-side" 3d as well as the PS3's blu-ray/games. (I actually have another post up on this, but no one is replying to it... lol.)

You really need another forum, not too many of us have digital projectors. I'd forget about email tech support, go clog up their 800 number.
Try www.avsforum.com, in the appropriate digital category.

Yeah.. I know I should post in another one.. especially since I no longer have a crt pj.. but let's face it: Curt Palme'rs are the cream of the crop when it comes to overall pj knowledge on the internet, lol.
I'll give the other forums a try.
Thanks!

Oh, well, since you say it so nicely, I'll add some info/
Bypass the receiver, and connect your sources to the projector directly. If all HDMI sources do it, it's an issue in the projector. If those work, then it could be an issue in the receiver, not liking the handshaking with the new projector.

It does it with RGB (VGA) too... so it's not just HDMI.
