|
|
Recently I bought a new Moome HDMI 1.3 input card for my Marquee, to be installed when I rebuilt and refurbished my
9500LC.
I'm no stranger to Moome products. I've been using a Moome DVI input card on this Marquee for quite some time,
coupled with a Version 3 VIM board.
I'm running the HDMI card in a Mike Parker modded Version 2 VIM board.
After doing a basic rough setup, and I do mean a ROUGH setup, things were looking pretty good so I decided to try
a movie. I grabbed the How to Train Your Dragon Blu-Ray disc for the test. It's a challenging test disc for any system,
with so much of the movie being dependent on dark night scenes but also full of rich detail.
The projector was at factory defaults, with version 6.0 firmware. Fully initialized, all existing settings long gone,
starting over. Even the serial number was 0000000000.
I haven't even tried to calibrate the greyscale yet. I just eyeballed it until it looked close enough not to drive me nuts.
Well, I'm really impressed! I've got my brightness set low enough that when the picture goes to mute, you don't even really see ANY light on the screen. Black is REALLY black. But I'm seeing more detail in the dark images than I've
EVER seen before out of ANY display system. I can freeze frame a dark scene, crank up the brightness to see what details
I'm missing, and discover that there AREN'T any.
Even uncalibrated, I'm seeing incredible detail in dark scenes while keeping a really solid black level. I am very impressed
and have nothing but good things to say about this card's performance, though as of yet I have not explored any of this
card's extra functionality.
The only thing I see that isn't perfect is that the faceplate of the card is not a perfectly fitting match for the Marquee's
VIM board. It sits a little low (or high, depending on your installation) as compared to the lines of the VIM's own faceplate.
But, that's minor. It still fits and works. It's just not an exact match in terms of the location of the card's front panel.

Yeah, Mike's new VIM really is fantastic and Moome's current HDMI boards are absolutely the best things we have ever had for CRT. We are talking a really potent combo with what you have. I did the same setup in a client's Madrigal MP9 several months back along with Mike's VNB's as well (Mike doesn't sell these though).
If the Moome card doesn't fit in the Marquee perfectly, pull the card back out, and loosen the screws that connect the card to the trim plate so that the trim plate can move around some. That way you will get better alignment
