The DPA5 is a 5 channel 150W into 4Ω per channel digital power amplifier designed with home-theater in mind. In contrast to most digital amplifiers, the DPA5 frequency characteristics are not influenced by the speaker load which is the main reason for its transparent sound. Completely convection cooled and quiet, the DPA5 is over-engineered and built to last.
The DPA5 is conservatively rated to deliver 150W/channel into a 4Ω load or 100W/channel into a 8Ω load. Unlike most mass market receivers that use shared power supplies, energy storage, and amplifier 'modules', the DPA5 will deliver this rated wattage continuously. The result is that the DPA5 150W/channel amplifier will play considerably louder and cleaner than a typical mass market receiver 'rated' at 200W/channel or higher.
Just as with the SOLO monoblock amplifier the protection circuits that fully protect the DPA5 amplifier against overheating and output failure are not in the signal path. Nothing gets in the way between the amplifier and your music. The result is that you hear the music as it has been recorded.
The DPA5 is hand built in the USA in small numbers.
Using the DPA5 power amplifier
The DPA5 can power up to 5 speakers, typical of most home theater setups.
Already have a home theater receiver with amps built in? You will greatly increase the sound quality of your home theater by bypassing the internal amps in your receiver by using the RCA connectors labelled 'pre out'. This will completely bypass the receiver's internal amplifiers. You'll be amazed at the sound quality difference from going from a cheap high-feedback integrated circuit amp found in all mass market receivers to the powerful discrete component based DPA5 amp.
Features
- High performance 5 channel digital power amplifier
- Delivers 150W @ 4Ω per channel and 100W @ 8Ω per channel (600W maximum)
- Distortion <0.008% @1kHz 1W, 0.1% @1kHz 75W
- Frequency response <10Hz to 50KHz +0,-3dB
- Output impedance <150mΩ
- Efficiency >90%
- Idle Power <25W
- Fully protected against overheating and output failure
Unlike most multi-channel amplifiers the DPA5 uses three (not one) power supplies to provide some of the benefits of a true monoblock design. The power supplies are separated as follows: The front right and rear right share one supply, the front left and rear left share another and the center channel has its own. The reasoning is that in critical stereo listening mode the fronts will each have their own supply for complete isolation. The center channel also stays separate and isolated.
