.ts files?? Does it play 8 tracks too?? Smile

What about mkv or mp4? I'm asking of the 83...as the 93 clearly states it plays all those formats.

An interesting question on the the OPPO BDP-93 after 01/01/2011 .....

Quote:

The one little piece of information that is still not certain is exactly when the player will become available. We're hoping that it's before the end of the year as this will allow it to escape the analog sunset ruling which prevents players from outputting HD signals over their component outputs (this ruling goes into effect for players manufactured after 12/31/2010). But those who have embraced the power of HDMI won't have anything to worry about. But please, OPPO, don't make us wait TOO long!

Funny you should mention that - Oppo just sent out an e-mail saying their player is now available for purchase on their website:

http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-93/

Now we just need to get some decent 3D content to watch...

Isn't that the same pre-order price?

I guess we were just getting to buy early...not a discount. Question

Along with the "official" introductory announcement of the BDP93 came the announcement and pictures of the forthcoming "Special Edition" BDP95. Aside from the extra boosted up analog features, just for the looks alone it might be worthwhile spending the extra dough.

Wow, that does look nice... Hell, it damn near looks like an Integra component and would look awesome in my rack next to my Integra prepro... But at nearly a grand (double the price of the 93), that just ain't happenin'.

Damn nice, I'd say. It makes me wonder if they were reading some of those earlier threads where I said I liked the players themselves, but that they just looked cheap because the industrial design sucked. OK, probably not... But, I'd bet it has something to do with the fact that I wasn't the only one bitching about the design cheap look & feel. Wink

Now all they have to do is rename the company! Oppo... Sounds like something you find on the shelf at Toys-R-Us between the Hasbro and Mattel products. "So, kids... Ask your parents for the new Flying Whozit by Oppo! Not sold in stores. Batteries not included. Action figures sold separately. Product may not be exactly as pictured." Wink

Just adding the Qdeo processing is what i like. its in my LG BH200 and I have to say that player looks great.

I'm sure oppo will implement that chip set much better than LG.

Got mine last Saturday. Didn't have a chance to get it into my rack until last night.

First glance says it looks better than the PS3.

I must say, the packaging is pretty fancy. Did the firmware upgrade and all went well.

Back to messing around with it.

but the Qdeo processing is only available on the 1st HDMI output, the 2nd uses built in stuff in the mediatek decoder, doesn't matter for source direct though

I'm shopping for a blu-ray player. (sold my PS3 because I got tired of the noisy fan)
this OPPO is interesting but how can it justify the $499 cost over a top end sony BDP-S570 for $220?

The Sony is HDMI only, no analog output at all. The Sony also only has one HDMI the Oppo has 2.

I have the Sony BDs550 and it works well for movies, very good in fact, but for music horrible.

I do not have any experience with the Oppo yet, but it is most likely my next BD player.

Also it has a great scaling for zoom and 1/2 size for those who have a scope screen and need to shrink the image of 1.78 movies to fit vertically , along with the subtitle shift to bring subtitles into the 2.4 aspect area. 6 channel audio outs as well, and the excellent Marvel Qdeo chip set.

My review of the OPPO 93 posted on AVS to stir their pot and maybe get an answer from the other 7152 posters in their
BD 93 owners thread.

Here... we.... Go.... Shocked

Ok I wanted to read this thread but, with 7149 responses it just can't be done.

I did read about 50 pages and found some of what I was looking for. The sound quality of the 93 is less than what I was expecting. It is, as others have said THIN, Analytical, lacking musicality. Prior to downloading the update via disc firmware 38-0126 the sound was 1/4 speed to fast? After loading it, it sounds right but lacks the aforementioned sound quality.

To help I will list my equipment. Arcam Av-9 processor, Bryston 4B sst, 6B sst, Dali Helicon 800 fronts, Dali CC5 center and Dali phantoms for the rears. Also use a Furman power conditioner. I am comparing the 93 to a Sony BDs550 for P/Q and audio on the 5.1 side. I have a 65" Mitsubishi RPTV and a Marquee 9500L/C modded projector. Both use HDMI for video and analog for sound.

On the stereo and SACD side it is being compared to an Integra DPS10.5 DVD player that uses Wolfson DACS. The Arcam uses Crystal DACS when decoding internally. The Arcam passes the audio through untouched, analog direct.

The P/Q of the OPPO is flat out hands down better than the Sony in every way. Depth, color rendition, stability. However; the Sony sounds fuller, brighter, with DTS MA. The CD and SACD sound better on the OPPO than the Sony easily. But the Integra DVD blows them both away for music for either CD or SACD. And by a large margin.

I was considering the 95 to compete with the Integra because they are both isolated designs. But The secrets to High Fidelity scope test shows them as nearly identical in responses. So I thought the scope can't lie, why spend the extra cash?

The Nuforce edition of the 93 looks to warm up the sound some which is what I think I would want.

I also had a Jolida JD-100a tube CD player but sold it because it was never used as the Integra sound was just to close to it to bother using it.

So in summation the Picture is stunning... the sound ehh.

Anyone else thinking this way? I may just send it back, but I am hesitant as the P/Q wins and maybe just the Nuforce board would solve my issues.

Dave

Nope I don't believe in that mumbo jumbo.

Ok Guys I sent the 93 Back. The improvement just was not enough from the Sony. The 93 was better for movies and with a whole host of features. The ability to set the crossover in the player. The ability to view 4x3 original T.V. shows as 4x3 not stretch to fit the 16x9. The bass was excellent. The sound field was pretty good for movies.

2 channel was not bad just not for my tastes. I leave that to individual preferences.

The Biggest reason for sending back however was it would always do a "frequency reset" The player would lose lock and a garbled mess would be on the screen, between the titles, the menus, and anytime something was done to it.It also failed to play multiple bluray discs on the first load. All in all it was pretty decent, just not enough to warrant keeping it.

It also has me rethinking the 95. After all they share the same Video chipset.
