I currently have this probe, built by a member of this forum, and was wondering if this probe could be supported by Chromapure in the future?

Here is the link for the DIY probe.

Thanks,
Oscar

Tom,
You may not have seen it in the other section, but Nash has built a couple of these. I am sure he would send you one to test.

I read your PM, but I am so new on the forum that its anti-spam rules prevented me from replying. Let me reply here. To provide support for a meter we would need the following:

1. A meter to work with.
2. A test application (presumably HCFR would work for this)
3. A driver for the meter.
4. Some written material that serves the purpose of an SDK. It lays out how the programmer interfaces with the meter so that it can communicate with the software.

If you can supply all of these things, then we can work on providing support for this device.

I read your PM, but I am so new on the forum that its anti-spam rules prevented me from replying. Let me reply here. To provide support for a meter we would need the following:

1. A meter to work with.

I can provide you with that.
2. A test application (presumably HCFR would work for this)

That i assume you already have or had and can get from the HCFR web Site.

3. A driver for the meter.

Those are in the COLOR HCFR folder USB_Pilote, or i can supply them for you.

4. Some written material that serves the purpose of an SDK. It lays out how the programmer interfaces with the meter so that it can communicate with the software.

I am sure i can get the Software development Kit that the HCFR team used, they said they offer it with a simple request.

From thier web site, not sure what this means exactly....
Quote:
The current version ( v2.1 ) of the software is available for downloading...
This software is distributed under FSF. GNU GPL license.
Sources code will be available on demand, ask authors
.

I guess i'll let them know what Some HCFR probe owners are up to and if they will help us out. If ntot hen it might be a no go due to licenses, they may end up asking for some kind of fee from users or Tom . If thats the case it might not happen. I'll try to work out a deal for every probe I sell they get a cut.

If you can supply all of these things, then we can work on providing support for this device.

Thanks Tom

Athanasios

Ok I posted on the HCFR site, lets see what they say.

http://www.homecinema-fr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1129&t=29942984&start=0

They might not want to go along with it, maybe if those interested would post there it get some attention.

Hey Nash,
As the site you linked is in French, and I'm French impaired, perhaps anyone interested in supporting your efforts could just post here and Tom could 'take it to the mountain' so to speak?

It sounds like the software is public and you only need to contact the authors for permission to use or modify it. As a matter of fact, GNU and FSF in it's purest form might mean that because they know their program from the inside out they would even work with you to modify it to our specific needs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License

Let me know because I'm definately onboard and will support this effort any way I can.

Thanks Greg. I use google translate, and english speaking posts are welcome there. My post is in english
and I have had responses in english from the HCFR team when I was asking for the Mac version.

I was looking at the site and realize the general Public license is most likely for the Color HCFR software itself and not the Probe software. I assume Tom is talking about the Chips brand the associated program used to communicate with the PIC(eprom) chip . I'll post the data sheet here maybe that will help Toms design team. Or i can get the SDK directly from them.

Ok here is the data sheet link. On page 309 starts the instruction set. On Page 359 is the list of development support tools list.
I did not do any of the program writing obviously as that is beyond my knowledge, I only bought a PIC programer and used the
HEX file the HCFR boys wrote to program each chip. They also have development evaluation boards. Id be willing to purchase this if you need it.

here is the PIC18LF2550 data sheet. the Probe uses the 28pin DIP chip.

http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/39632D.pdf

And here is the Light to frequency converter chip used, the TAOS TCS3200D

http://mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/TCS3200-E11.pdf

that also has an evaluation board, not sure if it is needed as well.

I figured you posted in English and thought of joining up but wanted to see if our posts of support here would be good enough seeing as this is where I personally spend all my time.

Gotchya on the licensing of the probe thing.

I'd previously bookmarked both the sensor and project board a while back. The sensor is exremely affordable. I can't remember what the PIC went for but I think it was very inexpensive too. As far as the data sheet...wa-HAYYYYyyy over my head and not something I really need to be able to build or use the completed probe. The programmer dudes will need that info for sure.

Depends on which model. There is the Eye one Display2( tri stimulus) or the i1 Pro( spectroradiometer)
the Pro model is much better and much more money as well.
