What Blu-Ray player(s) out there mesh well with CRT (G-70)?

I don't have a video processor so I'm limited to DVI and YPbPr inputs direct to the PJ.

From what I undestand unless you are HDCP compliant, want 1080p and not have to deal with the image consraint token if/when implemented I would say none. You would have to do a Moome or HDFury hdmi to RGB to take full advantage of even BR @ 1080I/P or you will only get 540P straight to the projector with image constraint active via component or hdmi. If no token is active then you would be looking at max 1080i via hdmi/component if the player supports 1080i via component.

Kinda sucks I know but the Moome EXT product is on sale atm on the main site.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong on this I am sure.

James

I (reluctantly) ditched the Panny BD I bought and failed to successfully integrate and ended up with a PC, which works rather well in the end. On top of Windows (XP at the moment) I use:
AnyDVDHD to remove the need for an HDCP display.
Reclock (to sort the frame timings out).
UDF2.5 driver (not absolutely necessary).
Powestrip (for custom display timings).
TheKMPlayer/MPC-HC/PowerDVD8 (waiting for Slyplayer).
I run the 15 pin analogue out via a decent 7m cable straight into the G70 at 1920x1080p(48/50/60) with no problems.
Still working on the problem or getting the HD sound out to the old receiver (currently making do with SPDIF).

AFryia,

barcoed's post, Perisoft's rants, and several other recent posts here are excellent examples of why I'm not using an HTPC for BD playback. What a total pain in the ass. And for what? So, you can skip a menu or get a few extra ticks of sharpness? I don't know about you, but I have about 37 things higher on my priority list than spending a bunch of time ironing out BD playback on an HTPC. The hassle factor is just too high at this point. When I go into the theater, I go in to kick back and watch movies. When setting up an HTPC for BD playback is as easy as it is/was for DVD playback, and doesn't require a $500+ computer for solid performance along with an $80 piece of software just for decryption, then I'll get interested.

Personally, I'm using an original PS3 with the old HD Fury on my G70, running 1080p/60, and I couldn't be (much) happier. Could it be a bit sharper with an HTPC or processor with active area scanning? Probably, but it's a beautiful picture and represents very, very little setup and maintenance effort, and ZERO hassle factor. Here's my movie-watching regimen:
Step 1: Insert disc
Step 2: Press play.
Step 3: Raise beer glass and eat popcorn.

No hiccups, no timing issues, video tearing, audio problems, or any other glitches for that matter.

I'd just pick up a Moome EXT-FULLHD v2 for $240, then add the BD player of your choice and that fits your budget. Heck, I've seen current Sony BD players ($150 at BestBuy) going on craigslist for $75-100 like new in box.

I'm running the JohnHWMan IFB-DVI-V2 card that's rated to 1080p 60hz and HDCP compliant.

This is a DVI input card. Will HDCP work over DVI? I believe the card is single Link, will that matter?

Anyone out there running this card with a Blu-Ray player?

I don't know the specifics on that card, but if it's truly HDCP-compliant, then yes - you should be good to go with a simple HDMI-DVI cable.

FYI, the original HD Fury used an HDCP-compliant DVI input... Probably about the same vintage chipset as the JohnHWman card, I'd guess.

If you don't mind the slightly higher cost than other BD players The Oppo 83 is a really nice feature packed player.

What he said. I would have bought one of those in a heartbeat if they were around when I bought my Elite
