So I was doing some searching and ran across this. A Barco Baron Projection Table.

Not sure if the guts is a 909?

Found a cut sheet for it. It's a reality 908. What is the difference between a 908 and 909?

ah, ok, I'm answering my own questions! Laughing

It is a 909 but with 8" tubes. Very cool. Didn't think they were doing 3D. Shows what I know!

If I were just getting into this hobby, it would be tempting to have what looks like a brand new 8"LC machine. It will probably need new lenses, and definitely needs case parts. I don't know. You can get a nice 9"LC Marquee from Curt for about the same price after you get done making that a front projection PJ. I think the guy is still a bit high.

Cool table though. I had no idea they made 3D tables like that in the early 2000s.

Yeah, but did you see the form factor? Big giant box... It would make a horrible front projector - it probably wouldn't even work as a "coffee table"... Unless you like 30"-high coffee tables. The form factor is even worse than a Marquee for home theater! Wink Twisted Evil

The Baron was pretty neat, though... I saw one about 10 years ago at a university.

here is how it looks with no table

Some one here cut the unit into two halves and stretched it out, i cant find the thread. but it has been done. I think curt had some retro units that are basically the same guts.

Was it Ile who did the conversion?

My gawd, did they make the Barco logo big enough?

Barco Engineer 1 - Did we make the logo big enough?
Barco Engineer 2 - I don't know... What do you think?
Barco Engineer 1 - Well, we can't quite read it 250 meters... We should probably make it bigger.
Barco Engineer 2 - How big should we make it?
Barco Engineer 1 - Well, how big's the bezel? We can make it that big.

Not me, I cutted my 808s frame to get space for 1200 HD10 lens frame.

It was Robbo and r.bauer who converted 1209s to look like a Marquee.

I like the pac man machine idea. You'd probably give new business to shrinks for the little kids that think that pacman is going to eat them though!

I would have thought the guts on top of the machine could go away and you'd be left with the PJ? I don't know anything about Barcos, so my assumptions are probably way wrong.

Yes but you are left with a retroblock as pictured above which have the electronics on top/bottom of the CRT cage rather than behind so rather tall or thick for a front projector. Also you would probably have a set of short throw lenses. Finally I am not sure the Barco retro blocks have the toe in adjustments for different screen sizes. I think they do but cannot recall.

Good point on the toe-in. I figured the lenses would be wrong for front projection. I didn't even think about toe-in. Lots of work to make that a viable pj I would think.

I would love to see one of those tables in action. The more I think about the table video game idea, the better it sounds! This is where I'm glad I'm not made of money. All of the crap that I would buy Laughing

I'm not convinced that this is anything other than an 808. Why? Old style keypad. The 809/909 had the newer smaller keypads.

yeah, but it's really a Barco 909 with 8" tubes in a really weird configuration. So it's a botched up Barco Reality 908

I'm working on one and have only the tray here (below).

Dude have you seen a Barco 909? It makes a Marquee look "petite".

I agree with Perisoft. The 909 is certainly big - it's way long - but, it's narrower and shorter - more slender... The Marquee is a little smaller in total volume (only 10%!), but because of the form factor it's big and boxy... Visually, the 909 does look smaller (even though it's not).
