I have noticed that when I watch AMC and other older movies, it never fits the screen, always like a card in the center of my tv.

I guess i need a scaler to rescale the output of my Satellite rec.

Can i get a scaler/processor that will do 1080 on the cheap???

John,
What Satellite service? My Dish Network HD receiver has a bunch of zoom and aspect ratio options, all are accessible with the remote.

On my Dish Remote it's the * key on the keypad...It might be labeled "Format". It will toggle between different options.

AMC is the devil. They go out of their way to present 4:3 ONLY aspect and that includes Pan & Scam versions of movies. If you have the Dish equipment to output only 720P (ahem, 1280x720) then my next question is what make/model TV is this connected to. If it is something like 1024x768 with non-square pixels we may need to play with the TV's format button and not the Dish equipment.

Keep in mind, though, that in addition to AMC not giving a chit about original aspect ratio and leaving you with bars as the channel's 4:3 sites within a 16:9 field, we may need to know how the TV is interpreting this. Also keep the thought that you are probably watched compressed standard definition content, abused by Dish as such, and then blown up to 720P in the worse way and delivered blindly to your TV.

My best advice is stop watching that god awful channel. Smile
