|

Hi,
I recently experienced problems with my Barco Data 800:
- The projector freezes often when in adjusting mode and takes no more commands from the cable remote. In this case only main power switch can shut it off.
- Projector starts and stays on only between 5 seconds and 2 hours. It dows not try to restart after it switches off by itself.
-Lamps when running: Stdby-Power is on, Main Power is on, Processor cycles is blinking, RCU is on. Side controll LED's for power supply are all on except for ScanFail.
-Lamps after shut off by itself: Stdby-Power is on, Processor cycles is blinking, Side controll LED's for power supply are all off.
-Red ScanFail lights up for short time(< 0.5 Sec.) when powering on or when it shuts down.
-Got a failure message 3 times shortly before it shuts down: error i2c addr. 64H
What I tried till now:
-Pulling out the convergence board-> Projector shuts down after 5 Minutes, gives multiple failure codes in rapid succession when in adjust mode. (sounds logic as convergence board is not in place)
-Removed every board and put it back in place -> Shuts down after 30 Minutes
-Checked power supply unit for cracked solder. Board looked a bit ugly, since it is partially covered with smeary transparent stuff, some solder points have a little yellow tint (got too warm and loose their flux?). Is this normal?
-Re-soldered most of the pins on the board (Especially the transformer leads). Unfortunately this did not solve the problem.
I posted this in another forum 5 days ago, but no answer to the problem yet. Instead I got a hint to post on this forum. Could you please help?
P.S: Sorry for my english...

Welcome to the forum. Never owned an 800 but Curt or someone here should be able to help you out and yes it was I that suggested you ask your question here...

Does this have one of those orbit boards?

Try pulling the convergence board out and see if the set will work normally for longer (with no convergence control of course).
That would be the first place to start.

I searched on the net and found this as first step towards a solution for my problem, but as I wrote it did not took long since it shut down again.

A 64H error is the orbiting module chip on the V board. A failure there can shut down the set, but also your power supply could be bad, as they fail on a regular basis at this point, esp. if they are all original, and haven't had solder joints and various parts upgraded/replaced.
Where are you located? I can repair the SMPS< and am selling boards out of the 800 for cheap.

As I am a total newby to CRT-Projectors I do not know where this "orbit-board" macgyver mentioned, or the "orbiting module" is located. Neither I know what SMPS means.
I am located in germany, so shipment is one big problem.

I wasn't sure if the orbiting board was separate or part of the vertical board but I think Curts post means its all one board. The SMPS means power supply. So its possible it could be either.
Shipping cost is only an issue if you dont value the operation of your projector. Or another way to look at it is, if I want my projector to work again then its going to cost me this much plus shipping.
Is shipping to and from Germany that expensive? Or what do you consider expensive?

I read about the Barco 800 on your site before my first post and got the info that it tends to bad solder points or parts on its power supply. Only because of this information I tried to resolder some points, as I mentioned in my first post.
I read again a bit more precisely and now I know: SMPS means Switch-Mode-Power-Supply and the orbiting module is for preventing burn from static images by slowly moving the picture around.
@Curt Palme: What would be the best solution? Shipping both (V-board and SMPS) to you and you have a look at it and send me back repaired boards? What would it cost in worst case (both boards bad) including shipping to germany?
This is an old model and not ranked that high in your database, also it has only XGA-Resolution and ES-Focus. Shipping this boards to USA will cost about 50 bucks (35 Euros) in germany. So I have to consider if this projector is worth the costs it will raise.
Merry Chrtistmas !

I believe that the SMPS is OK. You're right, the cost of shipping is expensive for an older set like that. If you want to try replacing the V board first before sending me stuff, I can sell you one for $55 USD incl shipping that is fully tested and working.
I've got lots here, and can stand to lose a few..
There are some upgrades that the SMPS could use if the set has never been touched before, but if you just want to get the set running, try the V board replacement first.

I'm having a simular problem. If I go into the Installation menu I get the authorized message and hit enter pj's output goes black. I get I2C error addr:BAH at different times while in the menus. Cycling the power is the only reset to when it goes black.

Starsheriff, I'm low on SMPS, I don't have any to sell.
Studio, start another thread and I'll respond.
