Does that one have Sony's DRC circuit ( Digital Reality Creation ) in it? I've seen that scaler in action and it does a pretty good job.

Yes it does...but that is only for SD. Now when I watch SD, it's already upconvered via my cable box. It looks a lot better than the DRC'd SD.

Ok gotcha.

I've been playing with my Pioneer 560H DVD burner scaling SD cable to 1080i into an HDFury to a 17" CRT monitor running the 1080i at 4:3. That looks great! Pioneer did a great job with the scaling on this one.

I'll say it again....all crt owners need to own one of these tv's!!

This was a lot of fun to fix...In order to fix the purity and geometry issues, I had to completely detach the deflection yoke...and remove all the wedges located around it. The general orientation of it was above and to the right of the tube. In order to make it look proper I had to do the exact opposite, lower and to the left. It's hard to explain unless you see it.

So, I had to essentially start from scratch...move the deflection yoke back with a green pattern, set purity so there was red on one side, blue on the other. Push yoke back into place and further adjust purity. Now I had to manipulate the yoke for geometry. I should have taken a before and after...serious difference so far.

Mark, I'll bet you can do the same thing with your monitor...

I have some other geometric anomilies that I will try and work through now...as I said, yoke removal pretty much means you're starting over anyhow.

As fun and rewarding as adjusting a crt projector!

Thanks to betel for the service manual...it was a must for redoing all of this.

I'm glad you were able to use the service manual. I've been wanting to do a custom calibration to my KD-34XBR960 but haven't gotten around to it because I rarely watch it. My son uses it to play X-Box 360 & PS3 games on and watch TV.

I would still consider it a reference display...it's better than any plasma I've seen. I just had a 50" plasma...and this is simply a better picture. I've had a 42" kuro, and then a 50" G10 panny...I'll watch this thing with a smile considering what it cost compared to those plasmas!

This one was clearly used a lot less than the last one I had...lots of output at low contrast setting.
