The only value of a Qualia at this point is light output. I would be concerned with panel breakdown though. The Pearl is reported to have had some problems. As has already been stated, I would rather spend $3500 on a new JVC or wait till AVS has another blowout like the RS2 for $2200. If you want to go big, then get a high power screen.

I have and love a VW60.

I saw Ruby's and VW50's demo-ed before.

Didn't get the chance to see the JVC's that everyone loves.

The Vw60 obviously doesn't do pitch black like my G70 did but I may have had to crush a little black to get there with my G70 because I never got to the Gamma Correction stuff.

Just watched the new Harry Potter on my VW60 today and it was very "dark" but it was stunning PQ.

I was looking @ a 60. It's a little pricy... Is it bright enough to watch in a lighted room.. Like at a party?

I've looked at the sony's time and time again with each new model, but consistently, I think the JVC looks better. I would look there first.

As an "ex-CRT guy" I was sure (I mean SURE) I would like LCoS the best, and though I like it, I still actually like the higher end DLPs better (though they a bit more $$$ than LCoS).

I used to not be that impressed with ANSI CR, but I have to say, it really has grown on me and now and after watching a PJ with 2 to 3 times the ANSI CR of any LCoS machine, bright scenes on LCoS machines look too lifeless and flat to me now.

The point just being, I would not assume "since I'm a CRT guy, I'm going for the most CRT-like look". You should compare and watch awhile and see if that is what you really want.

YMMV

Hey,

Don't know about a lighted room because I only use it in a fully light controlled theater.

I'm sure it's not a light cannon and there are brighter ones.

I bought mine refurbished for $2300 or $2400 or something.

You can get them cheaply used if you look around.

I don't know if this fella is trustworthy but I would be looking at stuff like this if I hadn't been down that road already.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-BRAVIA-SXRD-HD-Home-Theater-Projector-VPL-VW60_W0QQitemZ200416152299QQcategoryZ48654QQcmdZViewItem

Or offer this fella $1000 shipped and paint the case black as a DIY project.

(Of course with DYE not paint... They sell automotive plastic DYE in spray cans at Autozone that outta work.)

Definitively.
