Register to remove this ad. It's free!
Our office has a web filter that blocks access to certain websites with a few of the categories off the top of my head being:

specialized shopping
adult images (don't ask)
webblog
entertainment
multimedia streaming content
etc.

How is this website classified?? Whatever you are doing...don't change it because it isn't blocked right now.

Websites don't classify themselves. That's up for some other third party to do, most likely whatever software filter your company uses.

I'm 99% sure that most software classifies based on content (there's really no other way to do it unless you want to pay people to manually classify sites).

So..... based on our content (especially the forum), we're likely "all of the above". Wink

Ok...didn't know if there were any parts or "keywords" that you put in the code of the website that would direct search engines and the like to your website so it was classified as "forum" or "projectors" or something.

I seem to remember something about this from my very early days in personal websites....

Anyway...keep up the good work! Wink

Nah, the whole idea of using metatags to classify yourself never works because:

(a) People lie
(b) People don't bother updating them/making sure they're accurate
(c) People lie

There are hidden metatags that you can put on each page of a site to help describe the contents of the page so that search engines (like Google) know when to list your page when people search. But then some smart guy figured out if he put a WHOLE PILE of words (pretty much every subject) in the tags, his site would always show up first no matter what someone searched for.

So today search engines (is there anything other than Google?) don't look at metatags. They look at actual content of the page. People still try and cheat by putting a bunch of words/subjects in really tiny font at the end of the page, hoping that Google will always pick them up and show them up high in the rankings but it generally doesn't work (Google's got some pretty smart guys working for them).

If you do need to classify this site somehow, one word comes to mind: Sexy.
