For others lurking, the problem is that NeoSync v1.3 doesn't support this remote and thus loses programming on the Power, TV Power and TV Source buttons.

I just got a couple of these remotes - one for the folks - and theirs is all set up and they love it, but mine will need to control gear in a light-proof cupboard. I live in Australia, and I'm having a lot of trouble locating an RF base station that'll work with these Boston's but isn't crazy expensive. An earlier post mentioned an RCA model sells for US$40 on eBay but there's none up there right now.

Could people who've seen compatible stations for sale online that ship worldwide please post a link to those product/s for me? It'd be much appreciated.

This might work for you...

Not sure where they will ship to but what you need is an IR repeater.

If it's IR blasting you need, this is what I used and it's working great!

The powermid is a little cheaper but this is easier to hide. Smile

Are you saying you're using this but without the IR-receiver part? I'm looking for a unit that will work with the RF transmission capabilities of the Boston remote, pick them up, and re-transmit IR (ideally, from several sensors on leads).

What you linked seem the be a wired IR repeater for use with IR remotes, from the decription? I know some of these repeater kits link wirelessly instead, and some of those will work with the Boston using just the receiver unit, but I don't know which ones, or where to get 'em.

Well, I couldn't comment until now but NeoSync has been modified to allow you to set up your own Device page for this remote. It works great. You can find it here:

Here's how to use NeoSync:

1. Make a backup copy of your file.
2. Open the ,nfc file in NeoSync.
3. In NeoSync, select the desired Start Device.
4. Click on the Yellow – Up arrow in NeoSync menu bar until the Start Device is at the top of the list in the view tree.
5. Then File – SAVE AS and save the file with Hacked on the end of the filename.
6. Open the Hacked file in Freedom Edit and download to the remote. DO NOT SAVE THIS FILE IN FREEDOM EDIT – it will revert back to it’s standard Device page.

I've attached a hacked file so you can see what can be done. Be sure not to save this in Freedom Edit or the hack will be lost.

NOTE: Change the Extension from .zip to .ncf before opening in Freedom Edit. I had to change the extension in order to upload. Do not Extract with WinZip.

You know I stumbled upon two of these the other day. I should really do something with them. Laughing

Hi,
I'm using the 501 to control my Marquee 8500 (was a bit of a hassle since from about 10 attempts to learn the code from the original remote only 1 was successful).
The problem I have is the range though. With the original remote it was easily possible to sit behind the projector and the IR signal would bounce off the screen and reach the Marquee. With the Pronto this doesn't work anymore. I put in fresh batteries but I still have to point the Pronto at the PJ's IR receiver otherwise it doesn't work.

Is there a way to improve this?

You got it to work AT ALL with a Marquee? I thought it was incompatible with the Marquee's frequencies!

Hmm, this is strange. As I said it was a lot of work to learn the codes but now it works without problems. I didn't learn all the commands though. The numpad, *, exit, recall, source and power commands do work though!

But the limited range is a bummer. Could be that this is true for other devices as well, but it's most notably with the Marquee since the receiver is on the front, pointing away from me. My current "workaround" is pulling out the cable so that the IR receiver hangs down the front... Not very professional looking.

Is there any way to "pimp" the output of the Pronto?

EDIT: Ok, I read through this FAQ thread and it seems that a lot of people are having trouble to learn the commands of the Marquee remote. As I said, it took a lot of try and error before the codes worked, but now it's working for me (besides the limited range).
I can upload my config if anyone is interested in giving it a try with his own Marquee.

Ok, here is my current config. I didn't change anything. Use the device "Projektor". Let me know if it works and if you get a decent range...

Hello, i foud that cd.. Funny your codes worked quite ok to my marquee, even from sofa (distance to the screen 3-4 meters)
Sensitivity is not so good than i get with my ru890, but so good that i can live with it. Do you have another ir-receiver to your marquee, maybe that is culprit?

Hey, cool it worked for you Smile
Hmm, strange that you're able to control it from your sofa. I do have another IR receiver but if I remember correctly it's a pita to change since you have to remove the red tube :/

I thought about putting in a second IR receiver Smile But I'm not sure if this would work... My Sony 1271 had two receivers: one on the front and one on the back, which was a perfect solution...

Any other ideas what could cause the range problem of my Pronto?
