There appear to be several products here for connecting a laptop to a TV. Laptop is a Dell Dimension; TV is a Sony Bravia LCD.

Can someone help me with a quick and dirty summary of the pros and cons of each connection product? Thanks.

Try a VGA cable.

Yeah, deep subject, and lots of variables. Depends on your Dimension, your exact model of Bravia, and your intended purpose for connecting the laptop to the TV. Fill us in a little on what you'd like to accomplish, and we can narrow down the discussion to something less than a novel.

Cheers,
SC

What connectors does the laptop have?

What connectors does the TV have?

What resolutions does the TV support?

TV/Projector: Marquee 9501LC / NEC 9PG+

My laptop has a VGA output and the TV has a "D-SUB" input (VGA), which I found worked really well, but I wasn't using a high resolution. It was whatever was higher than 1024x 768, but wide screen. Don't remember exactly.

It will depend what your laptop has as a video out. My guess would be a VGA out, unless it's a really nice dell (maybe DVI and less likely HDMI). The thing I liked is the 10 foot VGA cable I bought was only $15 (definitely the cheapest option). It worked well for the "big screen" experience before the projector came into play. Now the projector does it all. No more TV as a monitor for me.

Good luck. It's pretty easy once you know what inputs and outputs you have.

Current Projector Marquee9501LC with PS3 (BLu-Ray) at 1080P LOVE IT! Screen is an Elunevision 120" 4:3 (2.4 gain - no hotspots). (also own a NEC 9PG+)

Well, I've got VGA out and the TV has a VGA in, so I'm planning to try a VGA cable and mess around with the Display settings.

I'll report back. Thanks.

I'm trying to figure out which cables I need to run my laptop to my TV. I have a Dell Studio. I took pictures of the plugs on the side of my laptop and what's on the side of my TV.

Great, can you post those pictures?

As with the above posts, an SVGA to SVGA cable is the easiest and best way to do it.

You could use HDMI if your TV have it, now almost all 2 years old laptops have HDMI.
