I'm an idiot. When quoting from another post, how do you get the quote frame to say who you are quoting?

use the quote button and it'll do it automatically
or just use the [ quote="John Doe" ] tag

By clicking on the "Quote" button of the post you want to quote. I just did it and the tag has quote="tri_joel" in it.

Yeah, and when you're in advanced edit mode, you can select a block of text - say a paragraph you copied and pasted from another site - and click the "quote" button to automagically wrap the tag around it. Then, you can add ="whatever" to the quote tag so it goes from:
to:
| Code: | | [quote="The framers"] |
which looks like:
| The framers wrote: | | A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. |

Just edit your post and take out the highlighted quote tag, and everything should pop into place.
All the tags in the form software are markup - they work just like HTML. So, there's always an opening and closing tag. They're just like parentheses - there are always two. The close is just the open with a slash.

Oh, and don't forget, guys... You can always go to the Post Testing Area to play around. Post whatever you want - it doesn't show up anywhere and it gets nuked after 48 hours. Good place to learn on posts that nobody will pay any attention to.

I'm so proud of my little moderators... chiming in and helping people so that I don't have to... Sniff. They grow up so fast!

Yep, Kal... Won't be long and we'll be asking for keys to the car and staying out all night.

My Dad used to say, "If you're not in bed by ten-o'clock, you might as well come home cause you're not staying out all night."
