This player will hold the 10801 setting upon power down and power up.
To get it to work properly with the HD Fury2, download all of the latest upgrades from the LG website ! The second download I did corrected a video output issue using HDMI converted into 1080i component.

I like the player - now that I have it working with my older non HDMI input Rear Projection HDTV ! It took some time to get all of that figured out. This is my first Blu-Ray player, so I don't have much to compare with. As of yet, I have not watched a Blu-Ray movie using it as I just got it working today. The network interface with YouTube, CinemaNow, etc is a nice feature. But, now that the Oppo is available with SACD and DVD-Audio is available, I might replace it with that as for now I have a Pioneer DVD player which gives me those features. It would be nice to have everything in one box and minimize connections.
Bottomline : Download the latest update on this player before testing all of its' capabilities.

I am thinking about getting the 370 version of this player which doesn't have the built-in wifi (don't need it) or the 7.1 analog outputs (would need it but wouldn't use it).
My main concern is load time. Is the player acceptable in regards to speed. Keep in mind I currently use the PS3 but I am sick of using the remote and don't use any of the other powerful features of the PS3.
THanks.

$199 for the 370 and $299 for 390...hmmm...
Probably just get the 370 and see what it can do.

I assume from this you go straight from player to HDFury2, so you have no way to test if it will output 480i via HDMI, correct?
Thanks,

Just saw this at Bluray.com
| Quote: | The new LGs are damn good when it comes to other formats other than Blu-ray.
AVCHD - from DVD, and USB
DivX - same as above, plus BD
MKV - same as above, plus BD
MP4 - same as above, plus BD
For anyone that cares, the new LGs can play (bitstream and decode) HD audio from a DVD (AVCHD) as well. |
Can't wait to unload this PS3...

If it could do those over ethernet...It would be a winner.

I was thinking the same thing...it also has a USB input so an external HDD would be cool with me also.
Hopefully it would be firmware updateable.

Will be here Friday...I broke the rule.
The price is still dropping (protected by Amazon price policy still?) and I haven't sold my PS3 yet.
Oh well...can't wait to test this thing out and banish Bluetooth from my theater permanently!
(Plus it just got Vudu service so I guess compressed 1080p and Dobly Digital Plus 5.1 streaming!)

Two day Amazon shipping is awesome. Out of town this weekend so cant play with it, but did hook it up and i think it is miles above the PS3! From power up to movie seemed like less than 20 sec but I didnt time it yet.
More to follow...

I can verify that it can play a Bluray rip in MKV format from an external HDD attached to the USB port. This MKV had DD audio though as I never really figured out the FLAC stuff.
If I get around to it I will see if I can set up a few other rips with FLAC and then try it again.
I wish we could figure out how to get this going from the ethernet port but USB is a good start.
Having a few issues with internet connectivity on this that I am pretty sure is switch related and I will look into it as my PS3 had some internet issues on the same line. Wifi is a bit shaky being on the opposite side and down a floor in my house.

Went to update to the newest firmware as I was having network issues. After the update it just keeps spitting out BD's. I think I bricked it.
Still plays local media fine but no network connections and no BDs.
Dammit...right before the weekend too!
Hopefully I can find old firmware somewhere.

I have tried that twice because I found out that if you try to have the 390 play a file that isn't supported it will just hang there and all buttons are nonresponsive.
I don't know why I messed with it...it was working fine and now I busted it.

Just found this review at Amazon and it is freakishly similar to my problems. Dammit!
I might try to get a swap first...
| Quote: | The BD 390 works more like a computer than an appliance. It forces you to interact with it constantly, like a computer, with error messages and occasional bugs. The video/sound is good enough that I won't hassle with returning it, but if I knew how high-maintenance this unit was I wouldn't have bought it. As other people have noted the networking features don't work well. I've set up both wireless and wired, and in both cases the unit initially connects to your router without any problems, but then the connection goes dead for no apparent reason. It will connect long enough to pop up a notice that there is a firmware update, but then the connection will time out trying to download it. I tried several times and finally the update installed. The Netflix streaming function will download your list of movies, but then choke when you try to play them. For a unit that costs this much that is unacceptable bugginess. If the problem is that the servers are overwhelmed then they should have
...
dedicated servers for their high-end products. The BD 390 does not allow you to disable BD-Live. I want the movies to load as soon as possible, so I set the BD Live connection to "disallow". The BD 390 treats that option like it's an error. Every time I pop in a BD-Live disk I get a message telling me to allow the BD-Live connection (and it's not a disk menu message, it's a message from the BD 390). So my only option was to re-enable BD-Live but to unplug the network connection (which wasn't a big loss since it didn't work anyway). To offer a service is one thing but to force users to use it is unacceptable. If you're watching a movie and you go into the DVD setup menu (for whatever reason) and then hit the "return" key, you would think it would return to the movie. Instead, it leaves you with a blank screen, like a computer desktop. You have to hit the Play button to keep watching your movie. On a couple of occasions it popped up a message that a disk wasn't readable. On both occasions I popped out the disks to check that they were clean and seated in the tray properly but it still wouldn't read them. I had to turn the unit off/on and then it read the disk, suggesting it wasn't a disk problem it was a software problem. Essentially I had to "reboot" it. I understand that technologically the box is a computer, but for this amount of money computer-like interaction should not be necessary. The options and services should certainly be available in the setup menu, but once you set your preferences it should work like an appliance. The customer support is useless. Obviously some cube-farm of low-paid contract support staff who have no personal knowledge of the unit, searching through the same thin reference material you could find on the web site. All that being said, the sound and video is good. If you have a receiver that can handle the uncompressed HD audio it's a noticeable improvement from old DVDs. (And if you have an older 1080i plasma, like I do, the picture still looks great.) So the core A/V technology of the BD 390 is nice, but getting to the point of enjoying it is a frustrating experience. |

Went to Amazon to set up a replacement and I saw this message!
| Quote: | Item Under Review
While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)
We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible. |
I wonder if this is just a bad lot??
I am going to Best Buy to see how much they have it for and will match The Big River.
