phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

I've been getting these error messages once in awhile lately. Not a lot, just occasionally... Maybe once every few days. I haven't tried to correlate when it happens to a particular time of day or activity, so I don't know if it's just that the server is too busy - or what.

Seems like it always happens to me when I try to post. Once it happens, I can't even get the main /forum page to load. I have to go away and do something else for a bit, and then it works when I return.

Just curious if it's happening to anybody else or just me.

AnalogRocks (Jeremy) emailed me last night about it. While the database is dedicated to us, the database software (mySQL) is used by many and there may be times when it's overloaded (?). I'm guessing.

Yet another reason to go to a 100% dedicated server where only we use everything, though right now we're on a box with only half a dozen or so other clients.

If others are getting these please let me know how often and when (roughly) and I'll open up a trouble ticket.

Kal

Thanks, Kal. I figured we were on a database server with others, as the responsiveness of the database server varies pretty widely. It doesn't seem to matter how many people are actually on curtpalme.com from what I can tell.

I think I can usually go days without it happening, but it's hard to remember how often it happens when you're not specifically tracking it. I'll start keeping a log if it happens with any regularity.

I had it last night at around 12:45 AM. It lasted about 5 to 10 minutes. Email notification did not come through at that time either. It came through later after all was back to normal.
