Hi Nashou, Smile

Did you ever find if the outer lens you removed is the same across the different HD10s ?

I have a scratched outer lens on one of the HD10s and was curious if the outer lens could be interchanged between the different HD10 flavors Question

No I have not gone further with this. At some point i probably will after i get my theater up and running, I am putting the 9 inch set up on the back burner for now and am just going with my bran new 8 inch Pj's.

Enjoy them, they look like awesome units by all you posted!!! Very Happy

I am trying to find something to have the proper leverage on those two notches on the lens edges.
I have a spare lens so I am going to give it a go.
I will post what I find.

Thanks for replying Smile

I have a Sony 1272. I see there is a set of Pt-43 color corrected lens on ebay. Would I gain anything by switching out mine for these?

All CRT projector lenses are "colour corrected". What people look for are "Colour filtered" red and green lenses: ones that have a red or green tint when you look through them.

Your 1272 has tinted glycol in front of the red/green tubes so you get the same affect. Don't change a thing.

Read this for more info: http://www.curtpalme.com/Tinting_Glycol1.shtm

VPHL-10 HACC - PT43 :
VPHL-10 HACC - PT65 :
HD8 - A :
HD8 - B :
HD8 - M :
HD 145 :
HD 18 : equipent les Sony G70

this appears to be the gamut of 8" (non-LC?) lenses.
here is a picture of the pt-43's that were spoken of. they indeed are color corrected only. how do they rank versus HD-8.s for optical quality? versus HD-145's? again never mind color filtering, how well do they project a clear image? I assume they must not be to great since no one is mentioning them. seems like HD-145's and HD-10's are well respected though.

Has anyone else used this formula to clean lenses ?

Guy Kuo

Dry air blown across the lens. If that isn't enough, William Phelps described his cleaning solution....

1 drop dishwashing detergent (not soap!)
(or Kodak Photoflo if you have it)
1/3 cup 99% Isopropyl alcohol
1 2/3 cup distilled water

It works very well indeed and does not harm the lens coatings. It's dirt cheap to make to boot. Cheap enough to use on your car windows. You won't believe what using an optical cleaner on a car window will achieve. Windex is residue city by comparison and should NOT be used on your projection lenses for fear of the ammonia dissolving the anti-reflection coating.

Don't get overzealous about cleaning. Every time you clean the lens, you will create some minor scratches. In other words, clean when cleaning does more good than harm.

The above solution can be misted on and wiped off with a soft lint-free cleaning cloth. Use each portion of the cloth only one pass. Start at the center and work outword. You will need to lightly buff until dry or else there will be visible residue.

Another cleaning product I very much like is Formula MC-1. I was turned onto this by Steve Smith. It leaves absolutely the cleanest lens surface I have ever seen. Use as a last step. Just a few drops do the job. The lens will appear to fog over as this dries. Buff the "fog" off and the lens will be cleaner than it ever has.

In either case, never never grind dirt back into the lens. Remove as much dust as possible with dry, compressed air. Very very lightly dust with a CLEAN soft brush. It is so easy to scratch the lens with a slightly soiled brush. Don't wipe a dirty lens while it is dry. Use a cleaning solution to loosen and lift the debris onto a clean soft lens cloth.

Be enthusiastic in throwing out multiple cleaning cloths. You're trying to preserve the lens, not the cloths.

Or this ?

P.S. I hate to even touch the lens coating but if it really needs it ..........

I've used it. It does a nice job it's just trickey not to leave residue behind. I sugest the final wipe be done with Kodak lens tisues. It takes alot of them.

I'm new to the whole CRT PJ scene but I've just bought a Sony 1272QM. I'm so new I haven't even set it up yet, all I've done is buy stuff! here's my issue:

Installed in the 1272 are HD8-M lenses, the coating looks pretty scratched/worn, I've got 3 orignal HD8's (the all glass/aluminium ones). Before I bolt this thing to the ceiling am I better off keeping the scratched HD-8M's or swapping them for the clean original HD8's?

Good idea - i wondered if it was possible to work on these PJ's upside down. Is it worth even swapping lenses though? Are scratched HD8-M's better than the all glass HD8 originals?

Hey all,

I have a Barco Graphics 500 with Noritar 14X lenses. I've tried the Lens Program but find no reference to this model or a similar one using those lenses. A while back, I found specs on this model (cant seem to find them anymore) that showed it's throw distance, max screen size, etc - but the listings were not for the version equipped with these lenses.

Does anyone have any information about this combination? Or an older version of the Lens Program that includes the Graphics 500 and Noritar 14X lenses?

And one last question... will these lenses work on a Barco Graphics 800? I am guessing no as the CRTs are different sizes than the ones in the 500 - but figured I would ask just in case.

Thanks,
Robert

I have some noritar 14x aswell and tried them on a 500. they are made only for very small screens and were often found in the 400/600 rear barco projection monitors aswell as some earlier projectors. I have the specs somewhere but can't find it right now. I remember 3-5' foot screen max on them. I would set up on table and turn lense focus to middle to test throw distance. Because of the small screen I remember the toe of the lenses causing focusing problems along with straining the convergence on the bd500. Also the schiemflug gave me problems with the smaller screen size. The best noritar lenses were the 27x in my opinion. You cannot use these lenses with a 800 unless you make/buy adaptors. 800 is made for hd-8 lenses

Hi virusc,

Seems we are running into different scenarios... maybe because mine are mounted onto a different projector (BG500). I've done 13'-18' screens with ease (and clarity, etc) - set it at 13' simply because I was out of wall space. At the larger sizes, it was projecting onto my room door (left corner) and ceilings. Was clear enough to use the BG500/Noritar combination as a computer monitor with default text sizes being crisp and readable.

When we fired it up last week (or was it early this week? All a blur lately), we tried it on a 6' screen. Was a pain, and we gave up on it (especially since the 6' screen was just for testing).

I am wondering if the spacers that came installed with the lenses are part of the difference?

And yeah, the BG800 I just picked up last night has the HD8 lenses.... and the original(?) cheapo flimsy "plastic" covers...

Best,
Robert

I need to know if there is a throw distance difference from the HD145 to the HD145N's. I know the N's were the designation for the NEC's and have the white ring on the tip of the outer lens. any other differences?
