Not sure where one would post this as we don't have a construction forum on the site at this time. Thought I would post the pics of the stage I build that required all that sand.

Right now I have Klipsch RF7's for the LR, and Klipsch RC7 for the center. There will be 3-4 SVS PB12/2 subs on there behind the screen same as what Art Sonneborn has. I sold off my Paradigm Servo v.2 15's to step up to what the big boys have.

I still have Mirage OM10's in the back do to my company owing me in upwards of 6-7k in expense reports. Piss me off too because I had a chance at a really good price on the new Klipsch RS62 for surrounds.

Do to the air traffic issue today I rented a car and returned home O'hare was nuts. So maybe I will be able to build the riser. I think I'm only going to do 2 rows of 3 even though my theater is 30' long. I have some ideas for the back Smile

Thank you on the comments It was based professional designs. Having a stage simple helps frame the picture either side will have a false wall up to the screen edges. I'm building the false wall to move the screen forward right now, then on to the side towers for the speakers.

Next I will be building the riser. The riser will probably have 75 sq. ft of insulation. Will be build mostly the same save for the sand.

I am planning a stage for my HT also but I'm wondering about the sand. I can understand that it will pretty much eliminate resonance, but if the speakers, assuming you have floor-standing ones, were not on the stage, would the sand still be necessary?

My plan is for a 16 inch high stage directly under the screen, which will house a centre channel speaker as well as two subs, all completely isolated from the stage itself, and then there will be two shorter wings (10 - 12 inches) on either side of the stage, upon which my tower speakers will be.

I'd thought about filling the wings with sand, but should I consider the centre section also and if so, why? I fear I'll be looking at a touch more than two tons, which is a lot of sand to schlep into the basement.

if the speakers are not on it then you would still need to pack it with R13 or R30 insulation to prevent resonating. I did my riser the same as my stage except it's packed with 4 rolls of R30 insulation. I turned it into a large bass trap using two register covers Wink

Can I assume, then, that you used the insulation to broaden the bandwidth of the Helmholtz resonator?

It's a great idea, actually, to do bass absorption that way. Did doing that negate or reduce the need for bass traps? What resonant frequency were you targeting? And...why the riser and not the stage?

I apologize in advance for all the questions but making something do two jobs at once intrigues me and I had not previously considered using the infrastructure for sound control.
