While taking a month lng break from the basement (post drywall stage) and the seemingly inability on my part to get the drywall mud spotting and sanding dust cleaned up, I called some companies about acid-staining. It would appear that drywall mud droppings and sanding dust is nothing and inclusive to their surface prep work.

The only pricing I've gotten thus far is $2.75-3/SqFt. I am still doing the home theater in carpeting (and thickest of padding), but that leaves 900 SqFt left to do. I think I can live with this as it provides an easy-to-clean surface with high-wear, and I get out of having to clean the drywall mess. Smile

Anyone else do this in their home?

For what kind of space? Living space? Utility/workshop? Workout room?

I think stained 'crete is very cool in a funky commercial space, but I don't know about residential. I couldn't do it in my basement anyway, because the floor is so damn cold in the winter, it's WAY too uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet. The frost line here is just a few feet above the basement floor. You might be able to get away with it in Hotlanta, though.

When I built my darkroom I painted the floor with the same polyurethane used in pools and then a coating of clear. Easy to just mop off with water. I thought dry wall mud was water soluble ?

SC, no bedrooms down in this basement. I already have a formal living room and a family room upstairs. Again, this is a man-cave. I would imagine the bathroom and kitchenette are being a focus of easy clean-up. The theater room will be carpeted, of course. But I have a couple of large rooms need high-wear, easy clean-up solutions for man-cave usage.

Since I do not like laminates, tile and wood are pricey, carpet is not an option, and the look of marble without the price ... I figured its appropriate. I guess now I am looking at what one contractor uses for a top/clear coat. Several schools of thought (acrylic, epoxy, etc.). I just figured its appropriate.
