O.K. lets start with I am cheap. I know this.
So how much is reasonable to pay someone to Trouble shoot a P/J.
And what about travel charges. Should that be less than the fix time?
And I know the old story.Plumber hits the boiler with hammer $, Knowing where to hit it $$$$$$$$.
I'm just having a hard time with what I was Quoted.$$$$$

9500 L/C Probably both set up and repair. blue is intermittent and will not converge on the left side of screen at all. Also on screen menu will not drop out to allow raster to be seen on any tube.

When i first got into CRT PJ's I had mine professionally calibrated and it cost double what i paid for the PJ, 850 bucks, that included cpc mags and a complete set up from scratch with two resolutions set up in my lumagen. After watching i do it myself now but it was worth it. It blew my set up away.

Atanasios,
What are the cpc mags? Since you have put a price out there is $600 reasonable to get me up and running, not calibrated just running good?

That's cheap actually to have one the best hands in the biz on your machine. Any type of house service call is typicaly $100. charge to show up and $75. to $100. per hour.

Just be careful who you hire. For calibration, ISF credentials does NOT equal the person being familiar with a CRT. I've had that happen a few times...'I got an ISF guy in for $800, and your set looks like shite, there must be something wrong with it'.
AS for service, Draganm is pretty accurate for pricing, although my house call base charge would be more, and the per hour would be less, but that seems to be typical when I've compared US to CDN labor rates.
If you're getting a calibrator only, then make sure the set is 100% operational before he comes over. Finding a CRT tech and calibrator is very hard these days, Terry and Mike come to mind on the east side of your country.

I agree that the service call at 100 is reasonable. Its just paying for travel time at the same rate seems high. But I guess its part of the learning curve.
I full well expected to pay $300-$400 in total. The other $200 hurts a little.

You have a Marquee 9500 that has a problem with the blue. It also has other problems that would make it NOT READY for setup or calibration. I told you a couple of times to stay with fixing it yourself because I'm not really up to driving that far to fix and setup your Marquee. I also told you I would work with you to do this as economical as possible, but I can't let you determine what I'll get for both repairing and setting up your Marquee. I asked if you were going to get a color meter, and you said yes. i asked that to help with the cost because you could do your own color calibration. And I would bring the set up to par with full magnetic and optical setup. All you would have to do is a little geometry and tighten the convergence. Thie usually works out well for those wanting to learn their own projector and save some $$ at the same time.
Again. why don't you stay with getting things working yourself and that way you'll save big time and learn at the same time.
I was really trying to work with you on the pricing, but at this point, it may be best for you to stay with this until you get it going yourself or get someone who'll be comfortable with what you're willing to pay them.

O.K. Mike I was not bringing you into this question. I did not mention you in any way. Now that you have inserted your self ,I will ask you this.> When I spoke with you at Jeff's home on the phone before I bought it, you said this machine is not an unknown I know it works well I have done all of the work on it. Then what is wrong with it? Why does the blue drop in and out?Why was the Blue G-2 not plugged in?
I feel that you get upset when anyone questions you about anything.
I did not say anything about you , I was only asking about what was the norm. All I said to you was can you go a little lower by $100. I was negotiating nothing else.

Ok, so you're expecting me to know what's wrong with a projector that I may not have seen in the past two years. And since you were at Jeff's to check it out before purchasing it, what was your conclusion then? Did the listed problems exist at that time?
| Quote: | | I feel that you get upset when anyone questions you about anything |
not really, it's certain questions that seems to bother me. especially when I'm asked to answer questions that it's not possible for me to know the answer to.

I just so happen to read your question on the forum, but it's not what you asked on the phone...

Just for a point of reference; I usually charge $795 these days for a full calibration on a working CRT for one scan rate. If I am on tour there is no travel charge, but if you want a special visit I charge actual travel... but I won't take a special trip just for a base calibration either. I usually won't make a special trip for less than a BIG job.
Repair is usually around $125 an hour plus a service call fee.

Mike,
The thread is the question.
I asked you several times what would you charge. And only today did the price come to light. After ten minutes of let me think I need my calculator. It appears you are not overly expensive, still expensive to me, but not overly. I was checking to see that.
I do not want to get into a pissing contest on the web,so I will stop debating this. It was never about your charge to work on the 9500 just travel charges for the long drive, I know its long and was trying to factor that in. I was closing in on the price wich I would have agreed to but it looks like you don't want to do it.
So I will let it be and I hope you will too.

Ahh yes the damn Smoking Marquee thread on AVS !!! Thank god I had the old HDM from the other 8000.
I agree with Mike you should try to learn more about set up on your own, When Craig came to my
home he was doing my RPTV and the theater Pj two differnt charges. I did the marquee set up on my own and Craig was suprised how well i had the ratser maxed out and the PJ mopunted just right. It actually gave him little room to work with on the tube face but he managed, he spent close to 12 hours on the Marquee. He is the MAN!!!
Craig If I cant get this Blend calibrated correctly you may get a call Just got a loaned Chroma 5 from Spectracal to test against my Display 2, i think it is off.
Sorry i hi jacked your thread a bit .
