Anyone here have one?
I noticed it doesn't have an ethernet jack for updates?
Is Panasonic supporting this model still? How are the updates done?
What do you think of the picture quality?

My parents have one, it seems to work ok. I don't know if you can update it...they don't do anything but put the disc in and press play. Picture quality seems good(720p Samsung plasma), however I have nothing to compare it to. I guess I probaby wasn't of any help haha

Note:In order to update your Panasonic BD player using this site, it is required that you create an update disc by downloading the latest "firmware" available for your Player and writing it onto a CD-R disc. If you do not have the means to create a CD-R disc, please contact the Global Service Center Network to have the latest update mailed to you."
That's not too hard! They will even mail you one. I wonder how often they update the firmware?

I have this player and I LOVE it. It does 4:2:2 color space and I'm sending 1080p/24 to my VP50 scaler with it. The BD30 has a lot of nice picture controls including a gamma adjustment which is just what we CRT folks need. It's a great player and Panasonic has done an excellent job of updates. You just download the firmware update and burn it to a CD. Place the disc in the player and it loads in just a few minutes. It's getting some age on it now with all of the new Blu Ray features but for solid playability of actual movies and bitstreaming the newer audio formats I don't think it can be beat. I have tried about four different Blu Ray players now and I keep coming back to this one.

By any chance, do you know if the component outputs can concurrently provide 1080i while HDMI is outputting 1080P?
The PS3 shuts off component output when you use HDMI... I feed 1080P HDMI to my projector, but I use 1080i component for another device.

Hmm...I'm not sure but I can give it a try and see what happens. Are you using the 1080i component for a secondary monitor or something?

The guy got back to me, he still has it available. I think I'll have a look at it.
Walter- I can watch Bluray on the PS3 but I like the 5.1 analog audio outputs of a bluray player. Plus can you ever have enough to play with?

The DMP-BD30 certainly doesn't beat the value proposition of the PlayStation 3, but if you insist on getting a standalone Blu-ray player as opposed to Sony's console, it's one of the top contenders.

Panasonic stashed an SDHC card slot under the flip-down panel on the front. This slot can read many different media types, including MP3s and JPEGs with resolutions up to 1,920x1080. More interestingly, it can play back high-def AVCHD video from high-def camcorders that record on SD cards. |
