I think it is good because since we have avatar freedom, some folks have mentioned that they can't look at this site at work. This would give them a way to do that. They can then "enjoy" your avatars at home.

Exactly. Each user can adjust it the way they want. Of course, if someone wants to view avatars from home but not from work, they'd have to go into their Profile panel each time and change it... annoying.
I'm looking into it... I want to make sure it's 100% bug free. I'm reading that there may be some problems/bugs with it that cause other problems (something I don't want).

I can't really browse here or the Evil Twin from work because some of the guys have gone too far.
My wife thinks I'm looking at a porn site....maybe I should show here some real porn to highlight the difference?
But yes, I'd like to be able to turn the avatars off.

This is a great idea. Not only for work environments, but for those of us that may not want to view avatars. I imagine most people that don't have enough interest in avatars to add one to their own profile, are not very interested in viewing avatatrs period.
The kids can still play without annoying the adults.

Oh! That would be so f*cking cool!
It's weird, there's not a word filter and anyone can write whatever they please, yet you rarely see anyone use curse words on this forum. I curse in daily conversation, but something about writing it is different. After posting that, I was a bit uncomfortable with it. I was tempted to go back and edit it to "fricking", but decided to just let it roll.

Sorry if this has been mentioned/discussed but there's a bunch of avatar threads and comments going on.
Hey Curt n Kal
Q1. Is there a way to turn off avatars to anybody just stopping in but who hasn't joined? (Explanation follows)
Q2. Is there a way to disable avatars by default for new members and let them choose to see them if they wish?
I'm tossing around the idea of making some cash part time performing pj installs. I'm thinking of directing people to the main site and the forums to showcase the different CRT pj's for sale, and the built in support they would have. It would be great if they could cruise the forums without me having to guess at what they find offensive. Wouldn't want to give the wrong impression about CRT owners now would we.
I think the forum would be an excellent sales "clincher" to convert or generate new CRT owners if they know the forum exists as a friendly, non-judgemental source for technical support.
Yes? No? Mebbe? Did I step in a pile of poo bringing this up? (meaning too AVS-ish)

There's no way to do what you ask in the mod I installed. I also haven't seen any mod's that turn off avatars for "guest" users. If you find one, let me know!
Though in all honesty, if this avatar thing turns into a nighmare (gee, where else have we seen this happen), I'm sure Curt will just nuke the whole thing since it really doesn't add any 'value' to the forum.

Ok, forget what I just wrote. I implemented something that doesn't show avatars until you log in. So there you go! Enjoy!
Avatars won't be shown for guests in posts as well as when you click on a user's profile. You have to log in to see these (at which point you can choose to turn off avatars completely if you like).
Don't say we're not here to serve you huh?

Man you rock!
Yeah I was hesitant to ask about those things because I didn't want to bring any more attention to the whole avatar thing.
In some ways it's beginning to look like AVS didnt have much choice in some of their decisions. Having said that, they failed to recognize what Curt spelled out in his mailer when discussing the current guidelines for the forum...Man cannot live by CRT alone.
Thanks again! With all the support available here, and Curts endless supply of pj's, I'm hoping in a year or so I can quit my miserable dead-end job and do something I actually look forward to getting up for. It should be rewarding for everybody.
