Ok here goes, let the flaming begin.
I love the Optoma HD65 I just received.
Why? I will list them below in order of preference.
1: Size - small
2: Ease of use
3: Noise
4: Picture quality "digital has come a longggggg way" clean crisp images, detail of scenes.
5: No rainbows "not yet anyway. which means no eyestrain"
6: COLORS!
7: Mounting options
8: This is actually #1 but I wont admit it WAF
9: Warranty 2 years direct exchange + $95 3 year bulb replacement warranty.
Anyone else own this series of projectors? HD 70 or others?
Will you admit it here?

This isn't a flame but I think it is bad form to post a mini-advertisement for a projector on Curt's web page. Why didn't you post the 800# for the store and some coupon codes?

Because others here will never fall for that drivel.
(just kidding unky, if you like it, good for you, but I personally cannot watch any single chip DLPs. I get headaches.

Fall in love kinda easy there donchya unk.
Ah it's all good. You probably just needed a flashlight so you could work on your 8500.
Enjoy your new toy. With money as tight as it is for most folks I cheer when ANYBODY buys a new toy these days.

Curt, I was real worried about this as well.
The old X1 I have gave me headaches, this one is much better, well so far.
I am the same way with CRT monitors that used to run at 60hz, I could see them flicker, I always had to ramp up the scan rate to 70-75hz to make the flicker go away.
My Marquee must have been very poorly setup, cause this is night and day. The color alone make the image, dare I say "3d like"
I got it from E-Bay, Best Buy clearance "Dealtree is the company" for $600.00 0 lamp hours with a warranty. I guess it was an open box deal.
I am very happy with the purchase, and for anyone thinking about buying one go for it! Glad I waited for the HD65 instead of the HD70, as I bid on one of those first.

I want a flashlite set up right above the barco so I can show people the difference in the image. But I'll never spend my money on one... until they get a lot better.

Notice what was not mentioned was Black Level or On/Off Contrast Ratio. Two of the most important aspects of image quality.

Then by extension, it is bad form to have posted any pro-CRT stuff on avsforum for the last 3 years since they don't sell them anymore. How many have observed that!

Errr . . . AVSForum doesn't actually sell anything. I mean, if AVSForum sold digital projectors and referred their clients to AVSForum (as Curt does) then you might have a point. But AVSForum is in the business of discussing Home Theatre stuff . . . ALL home theatre stuff.
Just my humble opinion.

Going digital is like dating a meth-head... once the bulb burns out you would be better off just tossing the whole damn thing in the trash, its worn out.

I bought my one and only (thus far) projection screen from AVS. While it was a recommended screen for CRT projection, I am somewhat unhappy with the quality in production--but AVS did assist in getting the screen replaced.
