|
|
I had purchased (2) Sony DG710 receivers. One had the power supply board broken into pieces and the other had a broken chasis. I swapped the broken power supply out and got the unit working. I noticed the other night when playing a movie a little louder than I normally do that the sound would cut out on loud noises and the display on the receiver display would dim at the same time. Obvioulsy I still have some sort of power issue. I know this is a shot in the dark but any ideas as to what to check? I still have the boards from the other unit so I could just start swapping them out.
Thanks
Dan

I've got the thrifty-man's-stupid version of that. I use a Logitech Z5500 subwoofer in my car - we use those in our motion platforms, and its sat. speaker outputs sh*t the bed, so I ganked it to use as a sub. I run it off a 400 watt AC inverter under the front passenger seat.
The only problem is that I'm lazy and haven't run the wires right to the battery. That means I'm yanking the juice right out of the ciggie adapter. I go through an adapter every few months, because I listen to trance music which is extremely bass heavy in an "I-mean-RMS-bass-heavy" way. The things melt. Then, after they've melted a bit, they don't make good contact, so the inverter doesn't get enough juice during heavy sections.
The AC inverter beeps when it's upset, so as any given ciggie adapter prong goes bad, the music goes:
THUMP (beep) THUMP (beep) THUMP (beep)
Too much beep and it resets, and all the bass goes away. I've really got to wire that thing up right.
It actually pounds pretty well when it's working, though, and the Pioneer head unit has enough adjustability that I can make the crossover with the rest of the system really nice. To be honest, much more bass would just get ridiculous; the only reason I can think to upgrade the system would be to reach down lower than 25, 30hz, not to *add more bass* at 30hz+.

We built a custom speaker box once for the back of a Ford Bronco II, it was a third order quasi something or other that used 3 chambers and 3 ports. We cranked it up and just about hit the brown note it was great! Those were pre internet days so we would experiment, talk to poor engineering students that couldn't afford to build one themselves but were willing to do the math and come up with a concept. We'd test it. It we liked it we'd make a few. It was a fun time.
